Going to Halseys for Sunday brunch or a hot roast meat sandwich on a Saturday was always something we enjoyed, until a few weeks ago when our Sunday brunch experience was terrible due to the poor service we received. We wrote a review detailing our experience and the owner quickly responded to our review apologising. He stated that they had had some staffing issues but commented that wasn't an excuse for the dreadful service we had encountered and assured us he would be dealing with the issues raised. Everyone can have a bad day and so last week we decided to give Halseys one last try for Sunday lunch. What a difference! The service we received was welcoming and efficient, exactly as it should be. Hopefully our previous disappointing trip was a one-off and issues have been resolved and all our future visits will be as lovely as the last. If you do go for Sunday brunch I recommend both the delicious goats cheese omelet and the really excellent...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible! As I walked in, I was greeted by an extremely unhelpful and grumpy waitress. I ordered a sausage roll from their display case in the corner and it was not hot throughout, as if it was microwaved. There was no cutlery available at the table and I had to ask for a knife and fork three times. I sat at a booth and the chair was damp. It is incredibly dusty and dirty inside, which I would like to add is ridiculously cramped and small for the amount of tables and chairs they have. The food is okay, but it is quite odd that you have to stand in a line to order your food when there are many available waiters and waitresses. The bubble and squeak is also very overpriced for what you get as there are no sides that come with it. There are many other places you could visit within walking distance. I do...
Read moreFirst visit. Promised so much but ultimately a very unsatisfactory experience. Won't be going back. Party of 3. Nice table inside. Not a bad menu. Took ages for the food to arrive. Two orders completely wrong eg bacon and cheese toasted sandwich became a bacon roll! . Pulled pork became ham and cheese! We immediately pointed out the error but said given the time to replace we would accept the alternatives they had put in front of us. Only a lip service apology. Clearly no thought of any sort of recompense. Indeed when paying just given a total to pay (no bill) and I am pretty sure we paid the higher price of the food we had ordered.. Best part of 10 quid for a sandwich/roll, not even a garnish or a few crisps. No shortage of alternatives in Hitchin so one and done...
