The Black Apollo Coffee House — Restaurant in North Norfolk

The Black Apollo is the best speciality coffee shop in Holt (and of the ones I've visited, in Norfolk, as well).

This café has well crafted espresso-based drinks, that use very high quality beans. I also really appreciate the selection of treats available, especially ones for those with dietary restrictions. As someone who is gluten free, it's lovely to have the option to choose between a few items. I want to really highlight the cannoli - it was absolutely delicious!

The decor is what I would call whimsical. I love it! Some of the pieces - like the hare encircled with foliage - is downright weird, but delightful. There's also an abundance of art on the walls. My eyes never know where to settle, but I like that as it keeps me entertained and helps me stay present in the environment.

I have visited this coffee shop twice now, first time was may bank holiday 2019 and most recently was December 2024. The shop I believe is owned by Norfolk coffee company so it serves this coffee. I came here the second time because it's competitor round the corner was shut early, on both occasions the coffee has been very good indeed. Holt is quite a smart little town and Black Apollo is comfortably the best coffee there. The cake and sandwich selection is good for such a small space and Emma and team are always efficient, helpful and friendly.
