Having been to the Two Magpies in Blakeney I was looking forward to a brew and toastie - I mean it should be the same product, service etc. Mmmm couldnât have been more different. The clowns were running circus here đ No direction as you enter - take a seat, table service etcâŠ.seen better in Greggs. Everyone crowds around the door - and being English we organise ourselves. In fact we were so English we started to clear the table (Tarquin, wife and brood -seated there previously & modelling Le Chameau, Barbour etc left all their detritus all over the floor and table - footmans day off). The chap in charge of the shop passed twice and dismissed Tarquins crumbs (related perhaps). Food and drinks ordered at counter (although they may come to the table đ§) Drinks ok - but 20 plus minutes for a croque monsieur - itâs basically ready made and popped into a grill for 5 minutes - idiot proof. Wife had eaten her veg ciabatta (very nice but need a mouth the size of a pedal bin to try and eat it with some decorum). I did chase the croque a few times but it was a like a scene from Fawlty towers. Refund issued for croque - payback for the headache and anxiety. Chap in charge was given feedback - politely- but I doubt if it was accepted (he used excuse No1 - weâve been busy)- Neighbouring customers have had similar issues and only came here because a better place was closed. Blakeney Two Magpies have systems in place and it works. Staff training and a re jig required here folks - business model is good but not with...
Read moreWell I'm a Southwold Magpies fan so when I saw this branch in Holt I knew where I was heading for lunch. The selection of cakes and pastries on display is as I would expect and looked fantastic. However although I can say that my coffee and tiramasu cake was lovely the Croque Monsier was very poor. Served warm the edges were inedible and the rest was soggy and over oily. If this is how you like it you are lucky, but it is not for me. The worst part of my experience was the service. I don't expect to be treated like I'm at the Ritz but a degree of civility and ability to perform your role should be a given. Four staff were visible front of house 2 male who were very busy and helpful. The 2 female staff were very disinterest and not engaging at all. The worst part was trying to pay when we were very obviously ignored even going to the counter and requesting to pay. I bet if I had walked out of the shop they would have noticed then. However it did give me a chance to observe that friends can get a discount. It's very easy when writing these reviews to take good service for granted, but when you get bad service it really stands out. Sorry Two Magpies Holt I won't be back, I will stick...
Read moreWe came here to try out this new cafe in Holt. Sadly it was a disappointing experience. There is a wide selection of cakes and pastries but definitely over-priced. My husband had bought a brown loaf of bread a couple of days previously but was shocked to find it was ÂŁ3.95. The bread was perfectly nice but at least 3 times the price of our regular bakery. I then treated a friend of mine to a coffee and cake last Friday to celebrate the arrival of our first grandson. Prices were on the high side but what annoyed us most was the fact that after just under 30 minutes we got asked to leave as they wanted the table. Had we been there for 2 hours I could understand it but we we are there just under 30 minutes and had ordered cakes as well as coffees , which came in v small cups for a âregularâ americano. We were told there were people waiting for a table but when we got up to leave there was no sign of a queue. It was a very disappointing experience and one I shall not be in a hurry to repeat, which is a shame as itâs always nice to see new restaurants and cafes open...
