Bircham Gallery — Attraction in North Norfolk

This is not your typical 'nice little country town gallery'. I paint full-time and am sharply critical of chocolate box art. The Bircham Gallery is outstanding in its range of work, painting; printmaking; glass; wood. It is also outstanding in the quality throughout the each range.The special exhibitions change frequently...the briefest glance at their catalogue will show the qualities they strive for. There were three or four pieces of work that I shall remember for a very long time for their visual and intellectual impact. Please have a look at the work of Chris Harrison - a quick look at one, framed, and I was sure that I was looking at a particularly fine lithograph. No..it was a photograph, with a little work done on it. There were several of Harrison works there and I'd have been happy to own all of them. Reader we bought one and a superb wooden vase by Richard Chapman...the kind of piece that will be a much sought-after and pricey collectors item a decade from now. Prices of work are very affordable - the same works in London would be +50%, and the owners are both knowledgeable and generous with their time. A rare treat...don't plan to spend a few minutes as your schedule will be pushed back a lot as you wander...

The Bircham Gallery is a 'must' destination whenever we visit Holt. As well as providing a wide and enjoyable breadth of young and established artist's work, it also has a wide range of priced work which appeals to every pocket. Hence we never emerge...
