Being a regular customer at two local Wetherspoons Pubs I was looking forward to a breakfast at The Limes, Fakenham’s Wetherspoons after spending a few days in Cromer and making our way back to Cambridge. It was busy when we arrived which is a good sign so we found a table and went to the bar to order. Only one member of staff behind the bar, a young lady who was talking to an off duty member of staff so took a while to break the conversation and eventually serve me. Two breakfasts and two coffees ordered, off I trot to get coffee from the machine. No wooden stirrers left just four or five used spoons, so delayed stirring sugar into my coffee until my food turned up and I’d use my knife instead. From where we were sat we could see the serving hatch, so sat waiting patiently for our food before we could drink our coffee. After only 5-10 minutes we could see our food was ready but there was no staff collecting it from the hatch. After ten minutes I walked over and asked the chef if I could take my food, he said no and ran over to the bar for back up. Two minutes later our food was finally collected by the guy who had been cleaning the tables, though I had to hold my hand up to draw his attention because he wasn’t sure which table it was for. Having been sat for at least 12 minutes under a heat lamp and shown to a number of other customers we finally got our food. No idea if the chef had done a good job, fried eggs don’t like heat lamps. Coffee now cold, I go back to refill however both machines were out of milk. After finishing our breakfast and noting that the coffee machines still hadn’t been replenished (about 20-30 minutes of the machines amber LED lights flashing), still no stirrers and the same old dirty spoons, we decided to leave. Warm coffee, no chance of Wetherspoon’s offer to refill as often as you like and a dry breakfast, needless to say we will not be using this Wetherspoons Fakenham on our return to Norfolk. ...
Read moreThe Limes in Fakenham is exactly what you think it is - a basic but suitable Wetherspoon establishment.
You can get food and drink at quite a cheap rate (and I say good quality for the price) with plenty of options, as well as different menu options on different days (curry nights, as an obvious example).
The building itself has quite a lot of history - having changed hands several times, and you can see the historical nature of the building in the various walls and general structure. Local history buffs might enjoy that part, possibly.
But, it's all very standard. You get exactly what you expect from Wetherspoons, which is affordable food and drink.
It should be said, though, that The Limes can get very busy on weekends, as it's one of the few pubs in town. If you don't like a busy atmosphere, avoid it for somewhere quieter.
It is what it is, and to be honest, Fakenham doesn't have many alternatives, so it does the job...
Read moreI'm not going to give this place a full review as I only went in for an early business meeting, and only had a coffee! Not been in to Fakenham before so didn't know what the parking would be like but found a free car park about 30 seconds walk from the pub, so that's handy. The place is enormous, a bit oddly laid out but huge, so I would imagine if it's very busy, it'll be very noisy. It was comfortable though, and warm too. I had a filter coffee which was cheap, with free refills, but it was bloody awful! Didn't have anything else, but whatever you do, don't drink the filter coffee! Everyone else in the pub seemed to be enjoying their breakfasts, some people were even enjoying their 8:30am pints! I won't be going back there as I live nowhere near it, but it seemed alright, so it's worth a look. Just avoid the...
