Decided to visit here with family for a special occasion. Upon arrival I asked at the bar if my table I had reserved was ready. The lady told me where the table was but I wasn't lead there. We were seen to fairly quickly for drinks and food. However when I tried to order more drinks as the food order was taken the server walked away. Food was delicious, generous portion sizes and all fresh! We were placed in the corner against what I can only assume shared a wall with the kitchen as there was a lot of banging against it throughout the meal. No staff asked how food was and no one checked if we needed for drinks. After we had finished our food we waited 35 minutes and no plates were removed from the table. After trying multiple times to grab a servers attention, patience was lost. I had to leave the table and acquire the bill myself and ask for the table to be cleared. When the final bill arrived a charity donation was added on our behalf. We weren't asked if this was okay, no signage in the restaurant was present explaining this either. We had no problem with being asked if we would like to donate to charity, however it was added without consultation. Food was lovely, service not so much

The first thing my mam noticed was how comfortable the seats were whereas I liked the trees they use as décor. It was late afternoon on a Saturday and surprisingly quiet, but that's how we like it. I couldn't see a sign for the wi-fi password and when I asked the young woman behind the bar, she kindly tapped it into my phone for me. Our server was very pleasant also. We both ordered the BEYOND BURGER and it contains TWO chunky layers 😃 so we elected to use our cutlery with that. It tasted wonderful (as did the sweet potato fries) and was extremely filling. A reasonably good value meal made slightly extravagant by having £9 cocktails. Patrons at a couple of tables had dogs with them which always makes me smile.

Full disclosure, only ended up in Al Bear because our original choice was closed. I'm really glad it was! Al Bear is a well appointed, classy, yet cosy venue . The staff were lovely and the food matched them. We had Sunday lunch, one Super Roast and one goat's cheese and spinach pie. Both were well presented, as you can see and absolutely delicious. The veggie gray, particularly, was superb. Unfortunately we're only in Whitley Bay for a few days but if we were lucky enough to live here, Al Bear would be top of our list as a destination restaurant. Go, you won't be disappointed.

Simply the best place to open in Whitley Bay in thirty years. I was lucky to try this place out on opening day and was amazed to see how much effort had gone in to create what is a magnificent bar and restaurant.. Whoever designed this place should be given a special award. The feel of the place and the suberb pictures are simply breath taking. The trees and spray paint on the brick walls plus the magnificent chanderlers are spectacular. So first impressions over let me tell you why I go in every day. Twelve beers, lagers and ciders to choose from which while cost a few bob more than my local are well kept and score ten out of ten. The menu is based on four themes. Firtly the starters which are extensive then the main big meals, pizzas and burgers. Having eaten here several times I can tell it is superb especially the Calzone which is super hot. The large selction of wines, cocktails and gins make this a super place. On a Sunday they have just stareted Sunday dinners with a few extra dishes so get yourself down. Again on a Sunday at 6.30pm they have a range of great singers on one each week so give this your support as they really are good. I will leave the best till last. I have never been in a bar where the owner and staff are so friendly. Two excellent managers and support staff plus the most friendly bar staff you could wish to meet. So thanks to the owner for investing in a great place. Please get your self down to Al Bear as every one enters with a smile and leaves with an...

I feel compelled to write this review based upon the replies to my friends comments on Christmas Eve. I was present at this unfortunate event and the response from the management is simply not true! (The owner is actually arranging to speak with one of my friends) We were seated and served drinks fairly quickly and then waited over half an hour before asking if we needed to order food at the bar; to be told no and someone would be with us shortly… food arrived eventually but

  1. It didn’t arrive together
  2. We didn’t get all our orders / it was incomplete
  3. Some was stone cold
  4. At least 2 orders were wrong We’d been at our table now for over an hour and asked to speak with the manager after having already approached the bar twice to ask for them! Eventually a man wearing glasses came across and made nothing but excuses and blamed us for the waitress who was crying in the back!! (She was not to blame and we made this abundantly clear multiple times when asking for the manager… more likely she was crying because her team had let her down or the chef had told her off for delivering the wrong dishes to a table!) This upset our entire table and naturally his comments escalated the situation, he was rude, obnoxious, arrogant and disrespectful! We were not threatening in anyway and for them to suggest otherwise is equally suggestive of his attitude. Likewise we were not asked to leave, we were given the option which we took as to stay would leave an atmosphere unfair to...

Really disappointed with the Sunday lunch and service! The starter was amazing, I ordered the Halloumi to start and NEVER had better, it was stunning and with that in mind I thought the main would be just as impressive especially at £16 for the 3 meat main meal! How wrong I was.....the Pork was cooked perfectly, moist and fat free, the crackling was rather meager however! The roast chicken was dry and over cooked and the slab of beef was totally inedible! There was 4 in our party, and extras seemed to arrive in 3s such as the gravy and the veg! And they arrived well after the main which in turn made the food cold! We had to ask for extra roast potatoes because some plates came without, and about the roast potatoes....they looked dry baked rather than roasted! The broccoli was totally raw, yet the mange tout was sloppy! Unfortunately I was in the bathroom when we got our 'call back' came to the table to ask how the food was, and as I was footing the bill my guests were to polite to say anything! The bar hostess who served my drinks was really pleasant and welcoming and did wish me a good day when I settled my tab which I thought was a nice touch considering! Lovely decor with a chilled laid back ambience, just such a shame about the Sunday lunch! It was rather difficult to tell who was...
