Cannot rate this lovely , authentic pub highly enough! After wandering around Tynemouth with our little dog looking for a place open on a Tuesday afternoon , we stumbled on The Cumberland Alms. What a gem! Lunch time menu was short and sweet - just as it should be. The vegetarian options were appealing. We opted for carrots with chick peas and mounds of flavours as well as chargrilled brócoli with a nutty flavour and seasoning. Also had a bowl of spicy sweet potatoe chips. With a small bowl of olive oil , to add it was honestly heaven and very honest food. I hope to return , as we are just visiting. Service and drinks very good , cask ale was great( according to himself) . Very impressed with our host who was very interested in our feedback and was a pleasure to talk to. Saved our first day...
Read moreThis is a dog friendly pub both inside and out. I went on the Sunday and had Sunday carvery and it was very nice indeed. I also visited during the week and had minced beef and dumplings from the menu, which was also very nice.
However, I used to manage pubs myself and one thing you should never neglect is the toilets. On both visits to this venue the men's toilets hand dryer was not working. This is simply not good enough for a pub that serves food. There is also no excuse because the staff and manager was standing around chatting on my latest visit, so they cannot even use being too busy...
