Me and the wife went Ashby for a walk round and popped into The Courtyard for a cuppa and a bite of something to eat. I had the BLT which to be fair you can't go wrong with but this one was rather good. The baguette was nice and fresh with a crisp outta. Bacon was perfect to. Not over done but with a crispy with each bite into to fresh lettuce and tomato. The wife had Bacon, Brie and Cranberry baguette and the baguette and bacon was just as good as mine was. The brie had been melted just enough over the bacon to give it enough warmth not to burn your mouth with the cranberry sauce. All this with a nice big pot of tea which tasted like tea and not hot water that had been shown a tea bag. The Courtyard toilets were clean and well maintained but upstairs so if you struggle with stairs it might be an issue for you but this cannot be helped due to the building. But with the friendly staff and taking a look at other food people ordered me and the wife will be using The Courtyard when we return...

Great food and service. I visited on Tuesday with my elderly mother. We were greeted by a lovely lady who explained they were full but would have a table if we wanted to return in 20 mins to which we did. The place was extremely busy and I watched the staff as I always do as we previously owned a busy restaurant. I watched a lady called Emma run around, seating, serving, clearing and cleaning tables in the most calmly manner always with a smile on her face for every customer and even found time for a little chat with them. Credit where credit is due, she did an amazing job i hope your bosses appreciate you and how hard you work for them staff like you are very hard to find. Food was delicious and presented beautifully, we will certainly be back...

Generally a bit of a let down.

It's an okay cafe with an outside seating area (shame the chairs were uncomfortable). Staff were friendly but slow. The toasted sandwiches were nice. Also the lemon and white choc cheesecake was lovely. Unfortunately, the lemon meringue pie was a huge let down. Such a shame.

I tried going a second time as I thought it might be a better experience. Unfortunately, the cakes displayed were of a poor selection. No Victoria sponge, carrot cake or coffee and walnut and none of the nice cheesecake like last time. So we decided to leave. Also, it was quite busy inside and a customer was unfortunately seated about half a meter from the door, facing the entering customers, while eating a full lunch. Which was a bit...

Superb lunch as we drove towards York from Gloucestershire. I had the carrot and coriander soup — homemade and perfectly seasoned, loads of flavor! Two large slices of whoIemeal bread and butter on the side. I also had a vegan sausage-and-tomato toastie with cheddar added, which was just delicious. It was accompanied by salad. My companions enjoyed their meals: jacket potato with cheese and a small salad; quiche and new potatoes; a brunch plate of eggs, chips, vegan sausages and beans. Everyone praised the food, and we were so full we didn’t even have room for trying any of the cakes(which look gorgeous).

What a fantastic place, we stopped here on the way back from a meeting. Last time we were in the area we missed as obviously being 2 blokes we did the usual “man looking” and missed it……anyway this time we found it. We were greeted by a lovely lady and seated upstairs as it was full on the ground floor…and you can see why. Fantastic atmosphere and all the staff were warm and friendly, as for the food we had a brunch meal which was very well made and looked great and tasted delicious, great cup of tea as well just what was needed on a cold day. Would definitely recommend and will visit again. Thank you.
