Second chance after the New Year’s Day disaster. Went for lunch on New Year’s Day, forgot about our order for over an hour, had to ask where our food was, food finally came, I asked for garlic potatoes and they brought me chips, wrong order. The manager was also throwing a strop in the restaurant with the staff as they had made a lot of mistakes throughout the day with different tables, the place wasn’t even busy as I expected it should be for New Year’s Day. Went for lunch today giving a second chance, quality of food has gone down, again asked for garlics and was brought plain chips. The place was empty so no excuse for terrible service, were not asked if we would like any more drinks, plates sat empty in the table for ages and only got cleared because I stared at the waitress to come clear them as they had been walked past numerous times, one member of staff seemed to spend the duration of our dining experience drinking coffee and eating biscuits, this should be done back if hosie with hands washed before serving, we were going to have cocktails but staff were unfriendly walking around the place in circles and not checking on their tables. The gate used to be a favourite but I’m afraid I will not be back until they improve their standards and have staff complete food hygiene and customer...
Read moreAfter we put our bags down, we headed straight for Gate Bistro (recommended by our host) and it also had really good reviews. After a long day of travel, drinks and pub food was exactly what we needed. Although we checked it out ahead of time, we didn't have very high expectations, so when we found out that some of the cocktails were a 2 for 1 special and the whisky was cheap, it was a pleasant surprise! The atmosphere was comfortable and pretty lively considering how quiet the rest of the town felt the whole time we were in Derry. I really liked the decor and our waitress was very friendly and chatted with us for a little bit as we were getting ready to pay. She gave a few suggestions on things to do while visiting Derry. Even with the difference in currency now being in pounds, we thought that this place was a great deal for everything we were able to get and would definitely recommend to anyone...
Read moreVisited the Gate Bistro after reading pretty good reviews on Google. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed with the service, and the food did not live up to the reviews. The service was abysmal. I waited a significant amount of time to give my order, and in the end I went and ordered at the bar. The food then came relatively quickly. I ordered the chilli chicken pitta. While it looked fairly nice, it was unfortunately a little lukewarm and I think they overcompensated with the sauce to cover up relatively rubbery chicken. I ate half of it and half the chips before leaving. The place was nicely finished inside and bathroom was clean, but the service was very poor, especially considering it wasn’t that busy, and the food was definitely not great. Would definitely skip this one if...
