Gonzo's was my favourite place to eat, and when I heard they gone gone into liquidation during one of the covid lockdowns I was devestated! Tonight was the first time I've been able visit since they reopened, and it was terrible. The music (Christmas trap? Are you actually joking?!) was so loud, our drinks order was completely wrong. After complaining for a second time to our waitress, it was turned down for a short amount of time. The menu given was not the same as what was advertised on their social media, again no big deal, they are still good burgers; however, the food was delivered in takeaway boxes (yeah I get it, covid etc), with no cutlery, no napkins, and no sauces. There was no way to get anyone's attention, and you're not allowed to get up (unless you're going to the toilet) otherwise you are kicked out (there are helpful signs explaining that above each table). This all makes sense in the trying time of covid, and i get it. But what really soured the night, was a bouncer coming up to us as we are 3 sips into a second drink (it took that long to get the second drink) and telling us we had to leave. The reservations are only for 1.5 hours (again I get that in this period, but this wasn't explained when the booking was made 🤷🏻). The way we were spoken to was so rude, none of us have never had a dinning experience quite like it. Saying 'hi everyone, there is unfortunately a limit of 1.5 hours on the table, are you able to quickly finish your drinks, and leave? We do have another booking for 5 mins. I'm so sorry' is perfectly acceptable customer service. We got 'you need to leave. The booking is for 1.5 hours' I said, 'oh, we still have some of our drinks left', and was flatly told 'they are in plastic cups, take them with you. You have to leave now.' The way he spoke to us was genuinely shocking, and quite unexpected. Its was menacing, and a really unnecessary tone. Especially for a business that has just bounced back and needs repeat custom to continue on. The cherry on the cake was the alcohol gel instead of soap in the bathroom, which meant you couldn't wash your greasy hands (no cutlery remember) properly. Nor is that following government advice or good hand hygiene. The burger was good, but the service and atmosphere was not. I'm so disappointed to see my favourite restaurant come to this, but sadly I know...
Read moreThis was possibly the worst meal I've been out for and I WILL NOT be heading back again!!!
The food was extremely good, however......the staff were rude (my girlfriend noticed the waiter staring at me while putting my pin in to pay), social distancing was nowhere near 2m from table to table, no signs up to say "no cash accepted" the declined legal tender. We were given approximately 90-120 seconds between sitting down at our "table" (it was not a table to be eating from.....it was a large coffee table) before being asked what we wanted to drink and if we were ready to order. Back to the table.... Where do I start, I have honestly never been so uncomfortable eating a meal in my life! I was sat on (what seemed to be a high chair) and was hunched over eating, I literally must have looked like a chicken pecking at grain on the floor. I was totally appalled at how a company such as gonzo's can get it so wrong! I'd have rather eaten my food stood up, it made me that uncomfortable eating from below my knees (and yes I have a picture taken from my head hight while sitting) while on the other hand my girlfriend was sat on an extremely soft leather 2 seater sofa that she effectively sunk into and had to try and eat her food from about 3 feet in front of her so eventually resorted to eating off her own lap which I do not expect when paying £25 per head for a meal. Then to top it all off, we were charged a service charge on the reciept of £13!!!!!
I would honestly found it more comfortable sitting in an...
Read moreWanted to have a day at the pub, but were told they were fully booked and the only slot left was 12:00-13:30. Arrived a bit early and joined the que but doors didn't open until. there was only one person on the door checking people in but a huge backlog considering everyone had booked to start at 12. - between queing and climbing 4 flights of stairs on a broken foot, it was 12:20 by the time we got upstairs. We were then rushed to order, and told no allergies could be looked after by their kitchen (no so much as a gluten free burger bun!)
there were empty tables until 13:00 when the next lot came in, so many pairs taking up tables for six people so the space wasn't being used well at all.
every 15 minutes we were told how much time we had left, so we could never really relax. - it took 15 minutes for drinks to come!
despite all punters being in the rooftop garden, we were forced to eat out of tin foil. - I asked for a plate but this was refused.
strict covid signs were everywhere, threatening to kick you out if you said hello to anyone, one read "strictly one person at a time in the toilet" which meant our group of six was waiting in the corridor while more people came past. In the end a member of staff barked at us telling us we could go to the toilet together.
With this poor service, and the staff generally being miserable, we were then slapped a 10% service charge ontop of our already expensive bill. £9 drinks, £15 burger.
Didn't appreciate being treated like an animal, won't be...
