The Merchant's House in Norwich holds a special place in my heart. I find myself here nearly every week, and it's more than just a coffee shop for me; it's a sanctuary of warmth and community.

First and foremost, let's talk about the coffee. The dedicated team at The Merchant's House takes their craft seriously, and it's evident in every sip. Their coffee is a masterpiece, and I'm always in awe of the flavors they create. Their passion for brewing perfection shines through, and it's a delight to experience it with every visit.

But what truly makes this place exceptional is the people – the incredible staff and the fellow patrons. I often come here to read my Bible, and during busy times, I find myself sharing tables with strangers who, like me, appreciate the sense of togetherness this place fosters. It's heartwarming to be a part of a community where people are so open and friendly.

The ambiance of The Merchant's House is a testament to their creativity and attention to detail. The decor exudes warmth and character, making it the perfect backdrop for those quiet moments of reflection and connection.

I also want to applaud the staff for their commitment to cleanliness and safety. It's reassuring to know that, even in the busiest of times, they maintain the highest standards to ensure a clean and comfortable environment for everyone.

Lastly, the location is simply perfect. Nestled in the heart of Norwich, it's a convenient and inviting spot to recharge, reflect, and explore this beautiful city.

To the remarkable team at The Merchant's House, your hard work, dedication, and welcoming spirit have created a haven for people like me. Thank you for making every visit a memorable experience. I look forward to many more weeks of coffee, community, and connection at this...

Really unprofessional attitude and poor treatment of their regular customers. Try booking a table for a group, confirmed in writing, even popped in to check the booking was good for next day, still ā€œfine / readyā€. Turn up on the day and we’re fobbed off and the staff don’t even care. After accepting an apology for that incident via dm’s on social media (they were nice about it tbf to them) I decided to occasionally go back and see how I felt. Second visit back I order a piece of coconut / raspberry cake and the staff member looks at the cake like I just said something bizarre she could barely understand… already I’m thinking ā€œgreat, off to a good start hereā€, I finished my simple order of coffee and cake and then said ā€œI’d be sitting in the courtyardā€ she then asked if I’d go out and come back and tell them my table number, I declined her request given that’s unnecessary and it’s a tiny courtyard. It didn’t go well after that, really unpleasant barista working there is all I’ll say.

Anyway, sorry to be contrary to all the other kind and good reviews here, but I def would avoid this place. The staff are a shambles and really don’t seem to value, recognise or take care of their own regular customers. Genuinely p**s poor attitude...

I regularly visit this place to enjoy a few drinks, cups of coffee and their wide range of teas. I must say I've always had a wonderful experience in this fine establishment for a number of years.

However the past 6-9 months things have deteriorated so much that I no longer enjoy or feel comfortable in this establishment. Certain staff members have an appalling attitude bordering on being unwelcoming!

At times those certain staff members do not have the courtesy to bring the coffee to the table considering the fact that one has become accustomed to table service.

To make things worse, the music sound level is so incredibly loud that one cannot have a pleasant conversation without having to repeat things! Also the music is so loud that it is almost impossible to have concentration when one is trying to read a book or do other productive things.

It's such a shame that things have deteriorated so much that I can longer call this place a great establishment. This is deeply regrettable as it was a wonderful establishment with feel good vibes for a number of years.

I would earnestly ask the distinguished proprietor of this establishment to take the time to address the above issues to bring the standards back to what...

A superb yet modest cafe/bar perched on Fye bridge. This cafe serves light food, tea, coffee, a range of interesting and exciting craft beer in cans, as well as a cask ale. The Merchant's House is an unusual find as a cafe that has a little of something for everyone. The coffee is clearly an important focus behind the small service station, with a lot of care going into it's preparation and presentation. The food is good and reasonablly priced, and the ale is of decent quality, usually a local choice. There is outside seating in a stunningly beautiful courtyard, unfortunately not disabled accessible. The main cafe area is accessible with a disabled toilet and baby changing. The atmosphere inside is warmly lit with quiet chatter and a small amount of board games are available for entertainment. The service staff did a perfectly good job, although it is bar service and hard to get this wrong. The Merchant's House is a fantastic stop when exploring Norwich or just passing through, with both locals and tourists enjoying the facilities.

Very cosy cafĆ© serving tea, coffee, bar snacks, beer, cider, and cocktails. They offer a variety of bottled and tap options for both beer and cider. There are free to use board games and cards, definitely go here instead of the very expensive 'board game cafes' which are popping up all over Norwich at the moment... They have both inside and outside seating, inside tends to get very busy in the evening. Reservations/ venue hire are not available here so best to arrive early if you are with a group! šŸ• Dog friendly! The whole cafe (inside and outside) is dog friendly daytime and evening. šŸ€ Wide variety of vegan options, including cakes, snacks, drinks, and milk alternatives for hot drinks (when I visited they had almond, coconut, soy, and almond). They have gluten free drinks (cocktails, hot drinks, and cider) and gluten free snacks (crisps and nuts) but no gluten free cake sadly!

Wow! What a stunning find on our visit to the city Coffee house-come-bar with the most amazing chilled vibe to it Easily walkable from the city centre and overlooking the river, there is a wide range of (delicious) hot drinks and sweet treats available. Dig a little deeper and there’s a range of draught beer and cider to suit everyone’s tastes Staff were amazingly friendly and welcoming and I could have very easily spent many, many hours just soaking up the atmosphere in this place I would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area, a worthy edition of a ā€˜must visit’ venue
