I recently visited Two Magpies Bakery and, sadly, it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in the UK. We spent around £50-£70 on food and drinks, expecting quality service and a warm meal. However, when our food arrived, it was freezing cold. While the flavors were nice, it’s a shame they couldn’t serve it at the right temperature.
On top of that, I ordered a simple iced black Americano, but it arrived loaded with caramel syrup—something I specifically did not ask for. When I pointed this out, the woman serving us immediately pushed back, saying, “That’s how we make our coffee.” She told me that I’d be charged if I wanted it remade, only reluctantly offering to remake it after I expressed my dissatisfaction. Even then, her attitude was dismissive and unfriendly, as though my request for the correct drink was somehow an inconvenience.
The lack of accountability and unapologetic response from the staff was genuinely surprising. Instead of showing basic courtesy, they blamed my “tastebuds” for the issue, making the experience feel even more unpleasant. I expected much better from a place with such a reputation, but unfortunately, poor customer service and cold food overshadowed everything else. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for a warm meal and respectful service—certainly not worth the...
Read moreMy partner and I come here for a late breakfast every couple of weeks as we live very close by. I am a wheelchair user so have a very small selection of places I can visit!
Two magpies has always been top of my list for breakfast, treats and drinks and their wheelchair access is really fantastic, the staff always make the visit easy and always approach me with kindness (not always guaranteed as a disabled person!)
The bakery is step free and flat throughout, their accessible toilets are large enough for my power chair and are kept clean and neat. When it's busy I do need to ask people to move their chair to make a path for me but that isn't a massive deal. The tables are good for my power chair to fit underneath comfortably. The counter of pastries can be a little tall to be able to fully see everything from my chair but the staff are extremely helpful and happy to answer questions. The till area is a good height for me from my chair and I have ample room around the counter to move and turn my chair around without issue! Overall the access is really really good and I feel safe and at ease...
Read moreI really didn't want to give the Two Magpies a 5 star review. So much so that I have put off reviewing them for months. Hoping that something would happen to give me cause to denigrate them with a little spiel of spite.
However, nothing went to plan, I was never greeted with an expletive, or had dandelion leaves in lieu of lettuce, everything was of reasonable quality and the staff, despite working very diligently, are friendly, pleasant and professional.
Though it is a little more expensive than Bread Source, Bread Source, unlike the Two Magpies, is not always up to standard, indeed, I have taken milk from cows that was warmer than a Bread Source latte.
The Two Magpies with its design integrity and well heeled clientele makes me confuse Timber Hill for Notting Hill.
With an independent book shop close by, I am busy writing a screen play. The plot concerns a studious young man, who inadvertently wins the heart of a famous Hollywood actress, who has come to Norwich to eat, love and prey.
The movie will be called "Timber Hill" with many of the convoluted love scenes set in the...
