My friend and I came to Middlemarch farm for some lunch however our experience here was just somewhat horrendous. Firstly we went up to order and nearly every option I wanted wasn’t in stock which is okay not their fault but some warning to what they do and don’t have would save a lot of time and effect.
My friend ordered the carvery and child’s sausage, chips and corn on the cob. I ordered the Yorkshire wrap, and when the food arrived was unpleasantly surprised with a tortilla wrap and potatoes, however, they took that back and rectified this. The potatoes were very dry sort of like when they had been reheated in the microwave and lumpy, the wrap just had tough cooked beef nothing else it was almost impossible to chew I had to cut it into small pieces and the yorky was extremely chewy.
My friend found the same with her meal, Dry tasteless had to soak it in sauces and gravy She had to ask for them to top back up because they were empty. Her little son only ate the sausages and said he didn’t like the rest, corn on the cob was just rock solid poor boy couldn’t get his fork in it never mind bite it even though he had to drown it in sauce and salt.
However, we’ve all experienced not-so-great meals so we just got on with it, we are not ones to make a fuss so we went on to deserts that took nearly half an hour to come out and the restaurant was mostly empty when the sundaes came out, the ice-cream was melted that much that it was crystallised when it had been left on the side. sauce was cheap certain bits were missing from the sundae that we paid for had to go up and ask them for it e.g. sauces, biscuits, wafers. My friend noticed that she had no sauce on her sundae so she took it up and mentioned this to them, for them to bring it back and say they don’t have the sauce for it as it’s not in stock.
At this point, I was utterly shocked because basically what they said was "Go send that out and see if they notice as we don't have the sauce for that". After all, if something isn’t in stock you tell them or you improvise and say ‘We don’t have that sauce although we do have this sauce available that complements that ice cream well’ No nothing! My ice cream had a stale brownie on the top. We left them on the table after 3 mouthfuls.
This is when I just had enough, people work hard to break their backs to earn money to go out and enjoy spending it and this is the sort of service that you get? It’s just not acceptable by any means. I told the waiter and he ‘apologized’ he was the only one that sounded sincere when dealing with this so hats off to him, it’s not his fault, they offered us a free cake which just wasn’t good enough at this point because how do I know that will come out correctly. A refund was mentioned so we asked if that was possible and thanked them, was told to go to the bar when we were ready too and we’ll have it all refunded. When we got to the bar we were greeted with such a foul attitude by the manager blonde lady making us feel as if we were crooks or something, arguing with us about how we felt about the food after asking us why the whole meal should be refunded! She was speaking to us with her back cutting up lemon which was just appalling behaviour for a manager. She said that because we had our puddings sorted they would only refund our two main meals that we had, after explaining that the baby's food was awful and the ice creams had been left full on the table. Even more attitude came from her so we just took the refund for the mains and left. I will never be returning here again, after traveling 30/45 minutes. Safe your money and go to Toby Carvery least you get...
Read moreWe were regulars to this once fantastic busy full of life restaurant however from the booking to leaving were were left deflated bewildered and very unfortunately disappointed.
Were felt really lucky to grab a booking on a Sat night at 6pm but front he start being told we only had the table for 90 mins was a little surprising to say the least but seeing we had not been for over a year we expected it to be the flagship it once was.
The restaurant was dead, no host no bar tenders and witnessed waiting team chatting to waiting team on the floor as well as the back room of the bar. Offered a choice of tables in front of the bar and not in the restaurant middle section was rather off putting at the tables were old and bedraggled, damaged and varnish missing. At this early stage we dismissed as well you know the odd table is missed occasionally.
We ordered online as there was no staff and no customer service. Drinks arrived and not being the correct order we asked a table cleaner about the missing drinks to which she turned in her heals and brought back a duty manager, he himself lacking the knowledge of what offers were available and instead offered a free drink as recompense. We went to the Calvary table the meat looked great as did the vegetable selection.
There ended our enthusiasm unfortunately as the place was dead no covers were on the vegetables and the plates where the meat was placed were also stone cold therefore you guessed it. We ate cold food. The redeeming feature was the gravy was hot.
The online has destroyed the customer service the human interaction and sent all the staff back of house with no regard for the paying customers.
The desert section did not match the pictures with outer biscuit wrappers plunged into the bisscoff. We had a prior engagement as as much as we deserved the hello when we arrived the goodbye was just as missing.
We hope this place gains it prior reputation, atmosphere, warming invite and friendly attentive staff. If it doesn’t do anything about the ambient food temp or at least an effort to cover to keep hot , we won’t be returning.
Sorry but sometimes truths need to be spoken and maybe intervention from higher levels of management before...
Read moreI have used Middlemarch Farm on many occasions, and have never had a bad meal. Today was no exception when my Wife and I popped in for a full English Breakfast early doors. It was of the same exceptional standard that you would expect of any meal served within this establishment. Well done to all involved. Have been to this establishment on many occasions since I wrote this review, I now have a few little niggles where standards appear to be dropping. It would appear to me that the members of staff on the front of house pay very little attention to any special requests that you make when you book your table, especially when you're booking a table within the Bar Area Only for your Disabled Partner who is a Left Leg Amputee with no Prosthetic and Dependent upon an Electric Power Chair, and when you arrive as you've booked this there isn't one available. Secondly there never appears to be any Cooked Red Cabbage available anymore on the Carvery, and when I asked a member of staff as to why, they maintain that they can't get any as it isn't ready available, something I find very hard to believe as there's no shortage of Red Cabbage. Thirdly as both my my Wife and I presented for a meal again this afternoon 12th May 2024, I went to the Bar to order our food and soft drinks, ordered accordingly and went to pay, offered the member of staff behind the bar my code on my Blue Light Card, only to be told that Middlemarch don't accept Blue Light Cards on a Sunday anymore, even though their tariff for meals is higher than weekdays, no explanation was given as to why other than it stopped about 2 weeks ago. Had I have known this could have gone to any other eating establishment that accepts Blue Light Cards of which there are many, and a lot better than Middlemarch and they accept Blue Light Cards 7 Days a Week without Fail, and some with greater discounts than...
