I recently had the pleasure of visiting Peony Café, a newly opened gem that brings the vibrant flavors of Turkish breakfast right to Wigston. From the moment I stepped inside, the warm and inviting atmosphere made it clear that this was going to be an experience worth savoring.
The Menu: A Turkish Feast for the Senses
The café offers a delightful array of traditional Turkish breakfast dishes, and I was fortunate enough to try several standout items. • Kuymak: This indulgent, cheesy cornmeal dish was the perfect start to the meal. Creamy and rich with just the right amount of melt, it was a comforting dish that perfectly captured the essence of Turkish breakfast culture. It paired wonderfully with some fresh bread for dipping. • Menemen: A classic favorite, and this café does it justice. The eggs were perfectly scrambled with tomatoes, peppers, and a touch of spice. It had just the right balance of flavors, and the portion was generous—definitely a dish to share or savor over a leisurely breakfast. • Pepper Paste: This side dish was a lovely surprise. The pepper paste added a burst of flavor to the meal with its smoky and slightly tangy notes. It complemented the other dishes perfectly, enhancing the overall experience. • Mushroom Delicacy: For those looking for something a bit different, the mushroom delicacy was a standout. Sautéed mushrooms with herbs and spices created a savory, earthy flavor that was both comforting and exciting at the same time.
Ambiance and Service
The café itself has a cozy, welcoming vibe with warm wooden accents and light, airy decor. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive.
Conclusion: A Must-Visit
Overall, Peony Café offers an exceptional taste of Turkish breakfast, and I can’t wait to return to try more of their menu. Whether you’re a fan of Turkish cuisine or just looking for a unique breakfast experience, this café is a must-visit....

However, I do have some concerns regarding the portion sizes when ordering two separate Turkish breakfasts. I’ve attached pictures of both for reference. When ordering just one breakfast, it’s presented on a rectangular tray with all the extras. But when ordering two, the meal is served on a large circular tray, and I noticed that the portion sizes were effectively the same as a single order.
One would naturally expect that ordering two breakfasts would mean receiving double of everything – for example, 2 bread baskets, 2 bowls of chips, and 2 servings of shakshuka. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. While I did appreciate the extra cheese, Nutella spread, and the kettle of tea, it still doesn’t quite justify paying double the price for what felt like a single portion with a top up of extras.
That said, I still recommend this place to friends and family. I just suggest being a bit cautious when ordering more than one Turkish breakfast, and I hope the portion issue might be...
