JING THAI RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Oldham

Absolutely appalling experience. Booked in the restaurant for 7 O clock. Over 45 mins for our starters to come out while they concentrated on take out orders. Other tables also complaining on the wait but we sat patiently. Starters were very nice but had to wait another 45 mins for our main. As this is advertised as a Thai restaurant I ordered my favourite Thai curry Massaman. This is a Thai favourite that is cooked with peanuts and potato. When it finally came it did not resemble the dish in any way, shape or form. It had peppers, broccoli and carrots. I advised the server I had been given the wrong dish and that I was allergic to Broccoli. She stated the people of Royton do not like Massaman as it was so they changed it to suit. I advised I could not eat it as it due to the broccoli but she said I’d have to pay for it whether I ate it or not. She admitted that she knew it was not Massuman but said they didn’t state on the menu it didn’t come with peanuts and potato. I said you didn’t advertise it came with the other stuff either and that it doesn’t resemble a Massaman in any way. I was not offered an alternative and she brought out a Chinese manager from the kitchen who just talked at me in Chinese with no offer of a resolution. I left after 2 hours paying in full with just eating a starter. This place has got too big for its boots, the food is generally good but has very poor customer service. Jing Thai is a family-run gem with superb food and genuinely warm service. The dishes sing—Pad Thai silky, green curry fragrant, Tom Yum bright—plus generous portions. The staff feel like a welcoming extended family, attentive and thoughtful in a cosy, unpretentious setting.

I’d note a previous review that contained racist comments such as a “Chinese manager from the kitchen who just talked at me in Chinese.” That kind of rhetoric is completely unacceptable, I've got screenshots of the racist review that is going straight to their employer.

We used to visit this restaurant 4-5 times because it was close to our home, and we appreciated the convenience of dining in with my two girls. The food is average compared to authentic Thai and Chinese cuisine, and the staff is rude. We always brought water bottles for the kids without any issues. However, the last time we went, three staff members repeatedly yelled at the kids for drinking from their bottles, insisting that we order water from them instead.
