Jin Jin Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Oxford

I consider myself being quite particular about restaurants and so, whilst you don't know me, and can't totally trust what I'm saying, you should still take it into consideration that I think this is the best Chinese restaurant in Oxford.

It was cold and tipping down with rain when I visited, so immediately on being seated I was brought some hot tea 🤗 A really nice touch. I chose to sit at a table for 1 but was offered a warmer seat at a table for 4. I politely declined, but again, I very much appreciated the thought and care 🙏

I ordered stir-fry green beans with chilli, stewed pork belly in sweet soy sauce, and egg fried rice. Absolutely amazing. I used to have a similar meal at SoJo in the city centre before it closed. The sauce was exactly as I wanted it; sweet and salty, sticky with rendered fat, soaking into the rice. The pork tender and delicious. The beans (I could have eaten 2 portions) offset the protein and carb heavy main, and again were delicious; perfectly seasoned.

I've been looking for some time for a new favourite Chinese since Kowloon House closed down (RIP lovely Kowloon House) and finally I have found it! Jin Jin on Cowley road (just down from Tesco) is an absolute gem. Customer service is friendly and accurate. Prices are decent for really great quality food. The duck noodle dish I had was the best I've ever eaten anywhere - so smokey and earthy and huge pieces of duck - utter heaven. No measly portions here! Kung po chicken comes two ways - the more western way with batter or the szechuan hotter way - both delicious. Sauteed three kind of mushrooms with Japanese tofu was so flavourful and the different textures were great - reminded my Chinese partner of home. We have found our new Chinese and won't bother with anywhere else again! Give them a go - they do delivery just make sure you have...

If I could give more than 5 stars I WOULD! I usually come here for the hot pot only but I’ve heard the other food here is great too.

In terms of the hot pot, this is the best I’ve been to. So if you’re thinking about coming here for hot pot, don’t think twice. The ingredients are fresh, you get a good choice of drinks and most importantly, the sauce bar is 10/10. It has everything you’d want to have your hotpot with!

The lady who works here and manages the restaurant is just the most sweetest person ever - and was very welcoming and attentive!

My friends/family come here every so often for food but we live over an hour away. If I lived closer, I’d be here at least...
