A must have in Oxford! My family and I went to have our dinner there during our trip and it was so good that we went back the next night to try out their other dishes.
Must have:
Photo 3: 辣子鸡 (La Zi Ji) - this dish was so addicting I couldn't stop eating it. It had the perfect spice and saltiness, and usually the laziji I've had in other restaurants have quite an imbalance ratio of dried chilli to chicken but Zhang Ji was so generous with the chicken pieces.
Photo 6: 烤鱼 (Kao Yu) - for any spicy food lover, you have to get this. The dish comes with a lot of vegetables on top as well, so you don't get too "bored" of constantly eating the fish. The portion was huge (it was shared among the 5 of us but we still had some leftover at the end), and the taste was so heavenly. Definitely an amazing dish to have in the cold weather to warm your mouth and your soul.
Photo 7: 风味茄子 (Feng Wei Qie Zi) - this tastes a but like candied sweet potato (for those who knows your Chinese food!) It's on the sweeter side but the sweetness balances out all the spicy dishes we had on our table so it was perfect. The crunchiness of the aubergine paired up with the sweet and savory combination of the sauces made it super enjoyable.
We also got other dishes which were all amazing. I believe no matter what dish you order from this restaurant, you'll leave being satisfied and happy :")
I'm actually surprised this restaurant doesn't have a higher rating (although 4.6 is already very high!). The servers here were very accommodating despite the busy environment and they accepted our request to make some dishes less spicy. I'm glad to have found this...

We've been to this place three times, so far. The missus and I believe that the food is decent, and that the prices are reasonable. However, the most recent visit on Saturday 27 May 2018 left a lot to be desired.
We 3 were shown to our table. The missus and I sat. However, my 8-year-old son (diagnosed with autism) calmly refused to sit. He told me he felt uncomfortable to sit on a white bench that he felt was a little dirty, and above a small, finger-sized hole in the ground. The missus asked the restaurant staff if we could be reseated at another table. Many other tables, even some for 4, had chairs that were suitable for him, and there was only 1 other customer in the restaurant at the time. The staff refused. Therefore, my son was forced to stand in a restaurant that was largely empty.
Because of this, the missus decided to make her order to go. More customers started coming in. I felt the situation was getting ridiculous, so I decided to leave, with my son, whilst the missus continued waiting for her food.
My son and I walked to Atomic Burger, sat and started eating. Halfway through the meal, the missus called, having finally received her food. She was angry, and said that a restaurant worker told her to move to a smaller table!
It's a shame, since their food is quite decent, but when eating in a restaurant, I don't see why we have to play musical chairs without good reason, especially when it forced my 8-year-old son to stand in a largely empty...
Read moreZhang Ji can do no wrong. They are the best Chinese restaurant in Oxford, and moreover, one of the best overall restaurants in Oxford. While their handmade noodles are infamous amongst those in the know, everything they make is a banger. It has come to the point where I order outrageous amounts of food every time I come because I not only want to have my favorites, but I also must try something new—the list of my favorites continually grows longer. Zhang Ji is where I bring people who are new to Oxford and flummoxed at the food scene. No other place has such cheap food with such amazing quality. To list a few favorite entrees: Yo Po Mian noodles, Dan Dan Noodles, sliced pork belly (hot or cold options are both great), Mapo Tofu, Lamb and Cumin, pork shank, Multi-Flavor Aubergine, Morning...
