Beachcliff Fish and Chips Open every day — Restaurant in Penarth

Good morning, Before I put a review up, I’m interested in your response to my complaint. I ordered and paid for the food to include, “No Salt and Vinegar”, I don’t like vinegar. Waited 10/15mins for the food, expecting it to be freshly cooked. I was called up to the counter to collect it, straight away noticed and smelt vinegar on all the food except on “The Sausage for the Dog” where on earth the sausage for the dog came from I haven’t a clue, but it was for my Grandson. A conversation ensued about the “No Vinegar, Thanks”, the staff obviously weren’t interested and I didn’t want a heated discussion and spoiling my evening with my Family, so I just let it go, took the food and drove the short distance home. Upon opening the box, for me, with the Regular Cod in, I couldn’t have been more disappointed with what I saw. Appalling absolutely appalling piece of Regular Cod, a 5 - 8 mm layer of over cooked fish that was surrounded by a layer of over cooked batter 8mm thick on each side that had in parts fused together with the fish. That particular piece of fish had been standing for a while then deep fried again. What establishment would do such a thing, that’s what shops used to do years ago, thought the industry had moved on from that sort of practice. For the past 10/15 years every Fish and Chip shop I’ve been in have freshly cooked the fish while you’ve waited. Very, very disappointed customer……………………….. Have used this fish and chips shop for a few years now and even though a bit more expensive always been worth it till yesterday tea time. I’m absolutely disgusted with what I had for my money. I paid nearly £24 for a child’s fish bite & chips & drink + 1 large fish, 1 regular fish, 1 portion of chips, mushy peas & curry sauce. The large fish, well if you could call it large was so small that it got lost in the box, the small fish fit in the corner of the box. The fish & taste reminded me of something I’d buy from a Supermarket & stick in the oven, it was not a nice fluffy batter that I expect from this establishment & that I’ve had in the past. The mushy peas were like water & the child’s drink was always a fruit shoot not the cheap carton drink he had. In fact the child’s meal looked more appealing than our did. So very disappointed in this meal, definitely not vale for meal, definitely did not taste like their fish from before & during Covid. Not sure what these guys are trying to do in terms of customer service. It's awful. The way they talk to their customers is pretty appalling.

There is a guy (might be the owner, might be security, not sure) he was wearing a yellow fluorescent vest and was standing inside the premises and barking orders at customers.

It was like a teacher telling off naughty school kids, not a staff member serving PAYING customers. This guy ordered two of my friends to back away from the door and wait on the other side of the pavement (the street was empty and there was nobody waiting in the queue at the time). It was just ordering people around for the sake of it. That's not how you treat customers.

When we got our food, over £20 worth, we were then charged 5p for each sachet of mayonnaise! No reason why some mayonnaise should be charged for, it's free in every single restaurant I've ever been to before.

Very disappointed. Was recommended by a friend, I won't be returning. Never met such rude staff. Who ever the guy in the yellow vest was, he needs some training on how to talk...
