Me and a friend decided to attend your tea rooms as we often do and this time I was very disappointed, my the service and food.
We both ordered the mini afternoon tea and water for the table
One gluten free as your on my safe list for my celiac's disease
The member of staff taking the order spoke very softly and didn't seem to understand the process of the of you afternoon tea,
We had to ask about cake/scone flavours
This is when I became disappointed, there was only one gluten free cake option. I ended up taking this home for my husband due to it being mint flavour he remarked it was dry.
When the food came out mine was half the size of the normal one, see attached photo.
which I don't under stand as you could have given more sandwiches to make up the size of the bread and the scones used to be as big as others as this is my go to when visiting your venue.
Once I started to eat it I discovered the bread was hard and dry (probably from microwaving it to defrost) at this point I tried to look for a member of staff to ask for a exchange but you were all busy.
So I took the the slices that were the hard and made do with what I had. I wasn't going to say anything just not order it again however I feel you need to improve your service/food to the standard it used to be.
We were there for a good hour before I decided to actually go up and ask for another drink ,this is terrible service.
you can also make so much more money from just asking if you would like anything else can I get you another drink
Once they arrive I was asked if the plates could be taken away and then the member of staff ask if it was okay, this is when I mentioned about the above, I was told that that's how gluten free things are as I live as celiac this is not the case and I've been multiple times and never has this problem.
I was offer a 10% off my afternoon tea and which is why...
Read moreNOT FOR CHILDREN, ELDERLY OR DISABILITIES!! Myself, very young baby and family went it when it was very empty and sat in a far corner looking out the window, my pram was pushed up to the table not in anybody’s way. My baby was sat on my lap to be breastfed. The server said she will have to move the pram to a space out of sight as it couldn’t be at the table with us.. (would she have said the same if baby was sat in it?) I wasn’t happy with this as a new and first time mum to not be with my pram but she was adamant it couldn’t stay at the table with us at the top part (weird as there’s a ramp up!) She was very rude in her tone and unwelcoming and seemingly just wanted to be difficult..my mother asked if they will compensate should it get stolen and she said they have security and that it wouldn’t get taken, she explained it was for health and safety so id assume it’s NOT WHEELCHAIR FRIENDLY or for instance elderly with a walking frame would be required to leave their mobility aids out of sight. They should be embarrassed, clearly the women was having a bad day or hates her job. The time before when we have been prior we were sat at the bottom and staff didn’t acknowledge us or remember our order, when it did arrive the gave us the wrong cake which had gluten in it despite explaining my mother had allergies so NOT ALLERGY SAFE!! too. We’re very understanding but what she said she was going to do was unnecessary and felt targeted, I’m certain if it was a person in a wheelchair tucked up to the table it wouldn’t have been classed as a H&S ‘issue’ so I’m unsure why a pram would be! We all left purely due to the women’s complete arrogance and...
Read moreI expected more from this establishment unfortunately it did not meet my expectations today. I booked afternoon tea for three people for which I paid a £15 deposit. On arrival we were shown to our table, however the waitress had absolutely no idea when we asked what would be included in the afternoon tea and she had to go and enquire. The cutlery was dirty and we had to ask for it to be replaced. After a short interval the 'tea' was brought to our table and my immediate thought was 'is that it?' as in my opinion there was certainly not £15 each worth of cakes and sandwiches on the tea stand for 3 people. I took a picture after it was placed on our table. The tea was extremely weak and the colour of dishwater even after being left to brew, with only 2 tea bags in the pot, not good! It was I presume Portsmouth Tea as the logo was behind the counter, a brew that has not got my vote at all. I voiced my concern to the waitress about the value of the afternoon tea and mentioned in particular that there were very few sandwiches to serve 3 people and I was told the chef was 'adamant' she had put 5 sandwiches on the plate (?), completely missing the point that this was still inadequate for three people!
We did receive a token £3 discount off 2 teas but were treated as though we had a damn cheek for daring to mention we though it poor value for money! Needless to say they have lost 3 customers and we will definitely not be returning to this tea room...
