A party of four booked this restaurant to celebrate a special birthday today. This morning we received a telephone call around 11.30 am asking if we had a reservation for two people so said no it's for four. An hour later another phone call could we arrive 15 minutes later, no problem as such but we had to re-arrange out cab. Arrived alloted time but had to wait outside the restaurant for 20 minutes as no tables. Eventually allowed inside and led to table and then waited a good 20 minutes for a waiter to take our order, after another 20 minutes after we had continually tried to catch a waiters attention for our drinks. To cut this saga short we only had the first two courses and our drinks in the time allocated before our cab arrived so in total we spent two hours and no main course. For this discusting service they had the check to charge us over £94 - we did object and eventually the bill was reduced to £60 which was still overcharged. Absolutely disgusting service, no apology whatsoever - other tables were quickly being served quickly. Birthday...
Read moreFood was excellent as usual, only one small note that it could have been hotter, some dishes had cooled and for me were less enjoyable. Water for the tea was also only warm. Otherwise a great place for Chinese food, one of the restaurants where other Asian folk go to eat which is a very good review in itself. Service cannot be faulted. If I'd reviewed last time we ate there that would have been 5*. Saturday 16/02/19 Another meal at taste of China, we had excellent service, the wait staff are great, friendly and prompt. It is a Busy restaurant, well patronised with obvious repeat custom. Food this time was again very tasty. I have noticed that the portion size that we received seemed smaller the last two visits, perhaps trying not to increase price but downsizing portion size like so much else, makes sense if customers are not interested in taking leftovers home. Always excellent in quality which makes it still a great...
Read moreNice place, authentic atmosphere, friendly staff and very nice food. However, the reason I’m leaving 2 stars is, ironically, the food. I’ve had an allergy to eggs all my life, known since I was a baby so I’ve learned to deal with it, and most places I eat out at have been excellent at accommodating for it, however this is not a strong point for Taste of China. Both times I have gone here, staff were warned about this allergy, assured me the food we were served contained no egg, but despite this I still reacted with the food. The worst by far was the first. I had the crab soup. Amazing dish as for taste, I highly recommend it as long as you don’t have an allergy to eggs. Like I said, staff were told about my allergy, yet I literally found pieces of egg floating around in the soup. Was not happy to say the least. TLDR; Nice place, nice people, but s**te at accommodating for...
