Nice friendly pub with a small friendly dog. Nice decor in the pub on the whole and Update - ladies toilet seats are nice and new!! Sadly they don't have a wide range of non alcoholic drinks and no hot drinks but a nice place to go nevertheless. Pool table and darts too they also do a quiz on a Monday. They do food but I've not eaten there so cannot comment, it looks very typical pub grub, chips, chicken pizza etc. The menu looks inexpensive and the kitchen is open plan next to the bar so the bar staff cook the food while you wait. They have a car park (input your reg number on the screen at the bar) and a large rear garden with outside seating front and rear. They currently have a meat raffle on a Sunday for £3 per square! They also have two Pool tables and they are nearly always in use. Wednesday evenings for about an hour it is very, very busy with students from the university filling most of the pub for the first term, September to December only. They are very loud and often a bit drunk but they then go into the garden as part of their routine and then all leave en mass! Strange pub that looks like it should be a student pub but seemed to lack students. There are several pool tables Special deals on large quantities of beer and burgers. Not your usual pub at all. There seems to be a thing about the car park being a parking fine trap. If you're driving, check carefully. We were there to watch The Nine Mile Riders, a local band. I used to see them at The Broad Street Tavern in Wokingham. They played to packed houses there. But The Palmer Tavern on a Saturday night was quiet.
