It's a little unfair to be reviewing the cafe here as I had a take away via deliveroo but as you can't review on deliveroo I felt I had to share my thoughts here. I'm not sure if Tutus reads or replys to reviews as none seem to have been addressed. I've wanted to try Tutu's for quite a while and thought this a good opportunity. I ordered the mild lamb with jeera stew, I can't find the proper name. The food arrived smelling nice and was very hot. Something a little unusual for deliveroo. My first suspension of the food not being what I'd hoped was when I opened the plastic container. There was a heavy line of oil around the stew. I tasted a little and the oil was overpowering in the stew. I used some pipettes to drain as much as possible. My other concern was that the stew was bland looking having a very grey/ brown colour. There was little veg in the stew which I assumed there would be but there was a good amount of lamb which was tender. The dish in all was very bland. No spice to speak of. Everything was very much the same texture a bit mushy with only the lamb as a contrast. The jeera was nice it has a very interesting sourness which I liked. All in all the stew was something you'd expect from a ready meal supermarket type. I don't know if this is the same as is sold in the cafe but it really wasn't very good. Even though I drained as much of the oil as possible the stew was still very oily. It was added oil not fat from the lamb. The lamb didn't have any real flavour. The dish seemed to be lacking character. Unfortunately I don't know a lot about African cooking so I don't know if it was authentic perhaps they need to take the authentic and add a little bit of something special to make it more interesting. Based on this meal I wouldn't eat there although it's probably fair to actually eat in the cafe not just via deliveroo. For the oilyness of the meal and the lack of veg, flavour in the stew the nearly £12.00 was a gross over charec. I'd have been happy to pay £7.50 for it. I feel that the deliveroo menu needs to be rewritten to give a clearer idea of what you'll be getting for your money I really hope the cafe will take reviews seriously and action...
Read moreI visited Tutu's after spending nearly 5 years in Reading as a student and never going inside. Me and my friends would always walk past and never visited. The hot food is incredible, extremely generous portions and tasty for the price. I had chicken stew (Doro wat) with a side of cabbage, and traditional flatbreads (injera). I then went up for seconds trying all the food they had prepared that day: beef stew, lentils, chickpeas, carrots and broad-beans, and more chicken stew and flatbreads. I also experience the traditional coffee. I have never experienced such a friendly, generous, hospitable service before in my life. Tutu's is a truly authentic and family business that deserves all the love in the world. They also serve homemade cakes, hot drinks, and sandwiches for those wanting an...
