We came here for dinner last week as we were staying in a nearby hotel. Online, both the menu and the pub itself looked appealing. I'd checked on the website if there were spaces for dinner, which there appeared to be plenty of as every time slot was available for three people to dine. I did not feel the need to book as every time slot was available and it was a Thursday evening, not a day where you would imagine it would be busy. However, when we arrived we were treated as an inconvenience by the man running the front of house. Initially we were ignored, we stood at the bar for several minutes without any acknowledgement we were there.. the pub was not busy and there was no one else being served at the bar. After acknowledging us, we asked for a table for three for dinner I stated we had not booked. The man kept looking up and down at me, my husband and father, this was very off putting. After checking the computer he said there was a table available and abruptly said he would need it back in 1hr30 mins. This was fair enough, but the way it was said felt like it was done to make us change our minds and leave. We were seated, but the entire time we felt incredibly uncomfortable and a massive inconvenience. It's such a shame as the food was amazing and the pub itself is beautiful both inside and out. I don't know why the front of house had such an issue with us being there, he appeared to treat other customers normally. Perhaps he was having a bad day? Or we were not wanted there.. I believe I know why, but this would purely be an assumption. However, based on the appearance of the town during my walk from the hotel to the pub I believe am I correct.

I'd like to say I would come back if I was staying nearby again, but unfortunately I don't think this would...

Delicious food in a beautiful location If you are looking for a traditional pub with a fantastic restaurant, in a beautiful location, you should definitely check out Ye Olde Six Bells in Horley. Wayne & his team provide a friendly & efficient service in a cosy, comfortable restaurant with lots of seating inside & outside in the beautiful garden. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed! The menu is extensive with an amazing variety of options, such as roast belly of pork, delicious pies of the day, fillets of sea bass, fish & chips, Penang Curry and many more, plus traditional roasts on Sunday. Great starters & yummy desserts, plus the seasonal menus are just about to be available This pub is mine & two friends favourite place to go for a lovely relaxing lunch with great hospitality and great service from our favourite waiter, Gok. Our visit yesterday was again perfect with delicious dishes and the usual fantastic, friendly & efficient service. Thank you for another enjoyable visit and please pass on our compliments to your chef and Gok for looking after us so well. This time we enjoyed roast belly of pork, smoked haddock fish cakes, lasagne with salad, followed by chocolate brownie & ice cream and honeycomb bomb and...

It was a Wednesday night and the closest, walkable (not really; far for tired seniors) with a menu that could accommodate my extensive food allergies. Because we didn't make a reservation, we were seated outside, which was actually quite lovely. They were short staffed, so we had to go to the bar to place our order; no problem. The barman kept seating guests outside, and so the wait for food kept getting longer. I really wanted my husband to experience an authentic British pub. We just didn't expect the surly service or lack thereof. The food, which was excellent even though they had to change my salad after no longer available, and we waited for an hour for my dessert. Oddly, the barman justvkept seating people outside even though they were short staffed! Then, there was a substantial mistake on our bill, which again we waited to have amended. The "take-it-or-leave" attitude was so surprising to a tourist. We laughed and weren't offended as we really are of the opinion, having encountered this type of attitude multiple times, that Brits don't want or...

Cute pub with drinks that are a bit pricey (5-6 pound for a pint). On our visit they had quite a few empty tables but wouldn’t let us sit down inside without promising to order food, so it was stand at bar liking at the empty seats or sit outside in the cold (we chose to sit outside in misty conditions). Seems that those sitting weren’t eating either, but maybe had reservations, so recommend that. but their pub their rules. Would have been nice to sit inside with the grownups and locals at one of the empty seats. Outside is a pretty parklike area though, so nice for our be round but to cold to stay as planned. Over an hour of sipping our drinks no one ever offered to take an order because they said they couldnt do service where we were allowed to sit. Not sure why, lots of staff. Once a server came by to pick up empty glasses from other tables and just ignored us. Saw tons of empty seats as we departed. I think staff are American tourist and don’t give a hoot about their experience. [edit] Thanks to the owner for a response.

Worth taking the bus from Gatwick! If you’re sitting at a hotel at the airport, looking at airport restaurants with bad reviews, wondering if you should take the bus one town over, do it!!! The food here is heavenly bite after bite! I had the sea bass over potatoes and peas. It was served with a white wine prawn sauce. I squeezed grilled lemon over the top and BAM! That lemon released exquisite flavors! My only regret is that I don’t think there’s any way I could make this at home and I live in the US, so I can’t just hop a train and come to Ye Old Six Bells any time I’d like. My partner had the traditional burger and loved it. There’s a lot happening with that burger and it all worked! Mike, our server, was a doll. He is a very hard worker and manages many tables with a smile on his face. I’m not sure what we’ll have for dessert (had to make the review because I was do excited to share my delicious meal), but I’m sure it will be wonderful!

Hidden historic gem of a pub in Horley near Gatwick Airport Oct. 2022 If you're anywhere near Gatwick, having a layover at Gatwick Airport, don't miss this gem! It's the second oldest pub in England at over 800 years old!! Typically constructed with low ceilings and exposed beams, excellent friendly staff who are proud to work at this prized venue, and an inventive chef driven menu to die for! We started with a raspberry and rhubarb gin and a cold Czech ale, followed by a bottle of an Argentinian Malbec. My hubby had the pie of the day- chicken leek bacon in a cheesy base, and I had the moist chicken breast forestiere. Both were fabulous. The desserts brought out for other diners looked scrumptious. Our lovely waiter Gok educated us re the history of the pub and the neighbouring church and graveyard. We finished our wine in the autumn sun in the garden outside. Wish I was coming back for Christmas Day!
