Travellers Joy — Restaurant in Rochford

This place has gone down hill since a certain server has been made up to assistant manager,I used to be a regular in here with my son and mum but after our last visit and previous recent visits we won't be going back. At our last visit we went to the bar to order food and drinks a black coffee a small coke and a large coke with ice,the large coke was filled only by two thirds,I asked for to be topped up I said that without the ice it would be half a pint the reply I got was "that is how much we put in and that I'm not arguing with you but I will top it up" so basically that says to me that if you question the amount then we will correct it but if you don't we'll just charge for a pint but give you half. Just to add I didn't ask in any sort of tone just a polite can you top that up please so I wasn't creating an argument.

What I have noticed since the change of management is that the staff seem to think that is ok to address customers as darling and sweetheart,if this was a East end pub or market stall I would expect this but not in a Rayleigh restaurant/pub.

Also the cutlery is never really cleaned properly I've found remains of food on forks before and badly water stain knifes and forks and the portions of chips you get with some meals has diminished.

Special Needs Children are NOT welcome at this place!! Outrageous behaviour by the Manageress!! Shame on her!! The Manageress in this place should be sacked or educated on how to speak to people! My daughter went there last Sunday with her 6 year old Autistic non verbal son and a friend & her daughter. Her son got up from the table and was immediately shouted at by the Manageress to “sit down stop running about”. My daughters friend was understandably upset by her attitude and told the Manageress he is Autistic and won’t understand her shouting at him! Her attitude was to continue yelling at the poor boy to sit down and be quiet!! My daughter was halfway through her meal and went to the bar to buy a fruit shoot for her son when a barmaid came up and said she had been told by the Manageress not to serve her because she’s “barred”! My daughter was told not to finish her meal and leave. When she asked for her money back as she hadn’t finished her meal she was told to “go and finish your meal and go”! She left without finishing due to being totally humiliated by this woman even though she tried to explain about his autism! I wish to God I had been there!!!! This behaviour by a so called “Manageress” is totally outrageous and abhorrent. To humiliate a customer who eats there at least once a week is all kinds of wrong. Regulars at the weekly quiz, the staff are so friendly and accommodating to our group. Adam, Wendy, Paige, Ruby and Trish always give us a warm welcome as do the rest of the team. Some nights can be busy for food as the meal deals are so good, for example you can get a main meal for just over a tenner with a free starter or dessert on a Thursday. Great value for big portions! Food is always tasty and served hot and presented well. We have our favourites on the menu and some we aren’t so keen on but that’s a matter of taste. We used to like the Katsu curry chicken which has unfortunately left the menu for the time being but there is plenty to choose from for every taste, also if you are after gluten free or vegetarian choices. We find it clean and if you ask for anything the staff will do their best to please. The pub is sectioned into different areas, suitable for adults only dining, family friendly dining, and a bar area which will still serve food. There’s a lot of TVs dotted around, pool table and a dart board in the bar area. For an all rounder pub restaurant you can’t really beat it locally in my opinion. Good location for nights out with...
