Undeniably lovely coffee and chocolate.
However, I just wish places like this would take on producer responsibility for their single use waste stream of drinks containers? Two things.
1/ They have only black bins inside and outside. Why can't they encourage customers to recycle their drinks containers on-site? The whole business model results in single waste cups coming out of their shop in an endless stream. 2/ It seems (twice, from experience) that if you order a cold drink (coffee or chocolate) they are only served in plastic containers. I asked for my cold chocolate to be served in a paper cup and was told this can't be done because the size of that drink is bigger than the paper coffee cups. I then said that since I didn't have my reusable cup with me, when I finished my cold chocolate drink, could I bring it back for them to recycle. I was told they have no system to do that, but were working on it. I asked what does "working on it mean?". As a waste producer, shouldn't this have been worked on already? I was told if I wanted to recycle my plastic cup, and lid, and plastic straw, I could take it home to recycle it. It's a fact that only 7% of this sort of plastic actually comes back into a recycled manufacturing loop. Why not try, at least, to stop clogging the Rye public bins with plastic (and paper) cups and plastic lids? Why not encourage people to use their own reusable cups (with a small discount incentive)? Why not eliminate plastic cups from your waste stream entirely? If you can't, or won't, do that, Why not at least have recycling bins in store and just outside, so you actually take responsibility for the waste you produce? Maybe you'll say you just do what everybody else does? Well, maybe as a producer of high-end drinks, wouldn't it be great to take this on-board, become a local trailblazer, and look to really minimise your waste stream? Again, lovely drinks. The cold chocolate with ginger is wonderful. As were all the other drinks my family/friends...
Read moreWell. I’ll start off by saying that this is the nicest hot chocolate I’ve ever had. Period. I visited this charming little shop based in rye overlooking the flats and harbour. As you walk in your presented with a large menu of drinks which are arranged by %. The higher the number the more chocolate taste you get. I always aim for 34% range as I like mine sweet and milky. There’s a range of items to buy in the shop including the chocolate flakes so you can make your own at home (although it’s never the same as in the shop so make sure you buy one there). The staff are friendly and take time to advise on the right one for your taste. A range of diary free and vegan ones are available if needed. You will it be disappointed. On my recent visit i noted the shelves and signs are a bit more sturdy (after almost trashing the shop last time by knocking a sign over) so thats a bonus. Well worth a visit...
Read moreDone the to good to go app and found this quaint little shop while on holiday. Absolute bargain of £4 breakfast items instead of £12 in total!! Purchased their receipe book, chocolate flakes and picked up a few receipe cards for drinks. Considering we arrived at 7pm, we weren't expecting to see much produce but there was enough until closing. The lady was very polite and told my partner and nan of some of the local things to do and see while I was looking around what was being sold (there is a wall of different grades of chocolate flakes 🤤🤤). It would be interesting to see what it's like when it first opens. You can't miss it because it's behind landgate. Easily accessible via car or foot (if walking around the area and you need a chocolate fix). I noticed a nice range of different chocolate and coffee drinks if you need to...
