On holiday in Camber and took my wife here for our date night. Beautiful Mediterranean cuisine, set in the stunning historic town of Rye. The menu seemed to have something for everyone - good range of both vegan and meaty meals! We had a shared starter: the hot platter, which was spicy, but not ‘hot’. This suited us. The halloumi and chorizo were cooked to perfection and the size was ideal for two (not too small and not too large). For our mains, we had the traditional carbonara, which was good. Tasted as though the pasta was handmade. Also ordered the marinated grilled chicken which was stunning! The meat fell apart in your mouth - beautifully done. They were both so good, we shared each other’s dishes! For desert, we had the Marcos special cheesecake. As you’ll see from the picture, there’s some fluff looking topping. Tasted like candy floss! Very enjoyable and large enough to share (if you’re filling full from the last couple of dishes). The wine list also had a good range and listed with the desserts were a choice of digestive drinks. The décor was very tasteful. I’d strongly recommend trying to get a table at the back, which backs onto an old church which is beautifully lite up, giving a very romantic feel to your meal, making it a natural place for couples. Having said that there was a number of small groups of friends dining out too. We can definitely see ourselves coming back here with friends next time. Service was very good. The waiter was incredibly friendly, accommodating and helpful. There was few things we needed to ask for because she seemed to preempt our needs. Very good service indeed!
Overall, Marcos was a fantastic restaurant. Ideal for a date or for a meal out with friends. I’d recommend coming here (in fact, I’ve already recommended it to my family) and certainly plan on coming back!...

Sorry, ‘parenthood problems’? I can only imagine you’re referring to the fact my son had just a bowl of chips as you were unable to cook him a plain chicken breast, which we had no problem with. We did check the menu beforehand and were already prepared in case there was nothing he wanted. Like we said when you accused us of complaining purely because of this, we’re really not that petty. Reviewed purely on the food and food alone. Maybe accepting the truth would be easier.. and yes very sad that McDonald’s would have been a better culinary experience.
We decided to go to this restaurant upon looking at reviews. This place is over priced for what you would expect. The halloumi starter which was priced at £7.90 is actually one slice of cheese and not the best cooked. However the crab and prawn starter was lovely. The lamb cutlets are thin and was also over cooked. To be fair they were replaced and cooked properly but still very bland. Best thing about the dish was the whipped goats cheese but meat had no taste or good quality.. The chorizo and scallop dish was absolutely not up to standard. Ordered the broccoli, green beans and pea side dish which was also small, bland and overcooked. Finally after asking for the manager only upon request, the Owner did take money off of our bill but seemed disinterested in our complaints and was as more interested in taking our money than our concerns. Would no way be returning. If you’re in rye, definitely recommend going to diamond koz, which has a much better quality of service and meal which fed all the family for much...
Read moreWe visited Marcos based on the reviews. It was around 3.30 on a busy Sunday in Rye, yet only one other table was occupied.
We we're seated in the conservatory, which was pleasant. We decided to order a bottle of Chapel Down brut, but was informed that this was unavailable due to it being out of season! This should have been a warning sign but we persevered. My wife ordered a vegetarian gyros, filled with feta and halloumi cheeses. I opted for the 'Hell Boy' chicken burger.
The gyros arrived as a flat bread that was more open sandwich, with lettuce and cheese tossed on top. Both dishes were served with paprika and oregano fries but you could barely taste the oregano due to the heaps of paprika. My burger was a complete disappointment. The bun looked as though it had been purchased from a budget supermarket, with the coleslaw layered on the base, making it soggy. The chicken was actually skewers and to seal the deal, the double cheddar turned out to be two processed cheese slices. When I brought this to the attention of the staff, I was told that this is normal burger cheese and how would the cheese melt if it wasn't a burger slice!
We left the food and paid for the wine. We had ordered olives as nibbles and these we're charged at £5 for a total of six olives and then service was added to the bill. We may have been unlucky but the food was poorly executed and completely...
