I invited my friend and family and visited Chennai Dosai last night 29 May. I live overseas and on every single visit - every 2 to 3 months - frequent Chennai Dosai along with friends whom i invite for a dosa feed. Most recently i was twice in Dec, twice in March.
On the many previous visits the staff (mostly students doing part-time jobs at Chennai Dosai) have been polite, courteous and often helped choose the menu for us.
Last night the lady in a black flowing gown was the Manager on duty, later a waiter said her name was Sherine and she was the owner.
Much to our astonishment and disappointment the Indian coffee was served in regifoam cups and not in the traditional silverware cup and bowl (where you pour to cool). When I asked Sherine, she said it was near closing time hence the disposable cups - what sort of reasoning is that ?? It didn't make sense as there were many other guests. Besides loading 3 cups and saucers in a dishwasher or even washing by hand surely doesn't take hours. I expressed my disappointment to Manager Sherine and said we don't come all the distance and visit an Indian restaurant to be served in disposable styrofoam cups.
When we went to the counter to settle the bill the staff were busy at the till, others clearing the table...... and while the staff were busy at work sherine was busy having her dinner !!
While all this was taking place my friend had noticed the indian family seated at the table behind us were served Indian coffee in traditional silver cup n saucer.
This experience showed Manager sherine lacked empathy in enjoying her dinner whilst her hardworking staff most likely paid minimum hourly rate were still busy and more importantly we non-Indiands appear to be treated differently??
Why else would we be served in disposable cups on the pretext it's near closing time and the Indian family at the table behind us who got their coffee after us in traditional manner ??
Sherine needs to learn how to treat clients and also it would have been nice had she lent a hand to her staff without having her dinner whilst staff were still...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Chennai Dosa, an Indian restaurant located in Birmingham. Overall, my experience at Chennai Dosa was quite delightful, and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking authentic Indian cuisine.
First and foremost, the ambiance of Chennai Dosa was warm and inviting. The restaurant had a cozy yet vibrant atmosphere, with tasteful Indian decor that created an immersive dining experience. The seating arrangement was comfortable, and the overall cleanliness of the restaurant was commendable.
The service at Chennai Dosa was impeccable. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were quick to greet me upon arrival and promptly assisted in providing recommendations and answering any questions I had about the dishes. The waitstaff ensured that I had a pleasant dining experience throughout, and their professionalism was truly commendable.
Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the food! Chennai Dosa lived up to its name by serving some of the most delectable South Indian dishes I have ever tasted. The menu offered a wide variety of options, ranging from dosas and idlis to curries and biryanis. Each dish was bursting with authentic flavors and prepared with utmost care.
While the food and service at Chennai Dosa were exceptional, there is room for improvement in a few areas. One aspect that could be enhanced is the waiting time for food during peak hours. There were instances when the wait for the food was slightly longer than expected. However, the quality of the dishes made up for this minor inconvenience.
In conclusion, Chennai Dosa is a fantastic Indian restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience. From the warm ambiance to the attentive service and, most importantly, the outstanding South Indian cuisine, Chennai Dosa is a must-visit for any lover of Indian food. I am eager to return and explore more...

Not sure about the taste, ambience but first impression is the best impression.Because of the telephonic call experience we rerouted to Chennai Parotta restaurant.
We are from Newport, South Wales, we came to Birmingham for an official appointment at Indian Counselate office and after finishing the appointment,we decided to have lunch from you and started from Gamgee House to ur place which was only 6mnts drive. We were 6 adults and 3 kids in 3 cars and while on ur way thought to give a ring and ask about the parking. Even though ur rating was 3.7, we decided to come thr only because of ur cardiff branch review and food. I called to your restaurant today afternoon, the guy who picked up the phone said don't knw about the parking areas and said u can park on the both sides of the road for 1 hour free. I asked about paid parking space if anything nearby and guy said no idea on this and you should find parking by yourself, said Thank you and disconnected the phone.
“Wow !!! What a fantastic gigantic bomblastic service”
Basically i felt like giving food is thr stuff and parking is my stuff. I am 100% sure that food is not going to come and finish in 1hour and its difficult to run back to car after 1hour free time when it finishes and managing three kids. Boss i was not saying to come and assist me outside the restaurant and find a parking for me.I expected a polite alternative guidance to nearby areas even its paid parking instead of saying Thank You and disconnecting the call.
The moment we rerouted to Chennai Parotta when it was only 3mnts away from u and the girl who picked up the phone at Chennai Parotta guided me to waverhill road car park 37875. This was the service or alternative guidance i expected rather than saying a direct no.
Chennai Parotta Food was good, ambience was good, pricing was affordable😄.
