N and I came here for dinner one sunny day when looking for a place we could sit outside. In the end it was a bit chilly but we enjoyed some drinks outside while waiting for a table and the venue is ideal for a nice day in Glasgow, right next to a big pitch with plenty of picnic tables to sit at.
We liked the sound of the menu and I had trouble deciding what to have but ended up going for stovies as I just love stovies and hadn't had them for ages! (Even though they aren't very summery!) I had the smoked haddock risotto to start and it was delicious! The perfect portion size and very tasty.
Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed with my stovies. I know stovies can be made many different ways and there are some arguments about the best/proper way but whether it's beef/lamb, has sausage in or not, I always thought it was called Stovies because it was made on the stove in a big pot, meat and potatoes thrown in or layered, maybe with onions and gravy or stock. Anyway, what I got was not at all what I expected - more like mince & tatties. Chunks of boiled new potatoes with minced meat, bits of sausage and the odd little bit of 'proper' meat and a poached egg. I tried mashing up the potatoes into it but I really didn't enjoy it, the flavour wasn't great. The egg was the best bit.
Nik had smoked salmon (which he enjoyed but didn't feel it went with the sweet chilli sauce it was served with?!) and fish & chips which he liked.
Service was efficient and friendly and the prices were OK but I would never order...
Read moreI ate here last night and the whole experience was ruined by the rudeness of the waitress. I asked for a glass of Rose Blush and she brought me a glass of normal very dark Rose. When I pointed out it wasn’t a blush, she very rudely told me it was a blush as it said blush on the bottle. She then said she had a Zinfandel and would change it to that. However I decided to change to white wine and went up to the bar to ask if I could change my choice to a white wine. I said ‘excuse me’ but she had her back to me and didn’t hear me so I stepped into the service area and said ‘excuse me’ she turned round and before I could say anything asked me to get back behind the bar! The food was good although the chips with the battered fish were very poor. It was also a long time before our plates were removed after we had finished. The restaurant was not very busy at all so we decided my questioning of the colour of the Rose had obviously really miffed the staff! I definitely won’t return to...
Read moreThe place itself was nice although a bit dark with only track lighting. My husband had the tomato and basil soup which was delicious, I had the goat’s cheese bruschetta with tomato also delicious. For the main course fish and chips which my husband did enjoy and said the fish was very meaty and the chips tasted savoury . I ordered the chicken and haggis with rumble dethump and pepper corn sauce which looked good but was very disappointing. The sauce was far too overpowering. Nothing could be tasted for this overpowering pepper sauce. The sauce would have been better put into a gravy boat on the side to allow the patron to adjust amount. Or better still change the recipe to a whiskey sauce. The chicken was dry and I wouldn’t recommend this dish. In all the price would have been fine if the chicken dish had been good but sadly...
