We had a very disappointing experience at 1051 GWR. To start, we were overcharged for drinks, being billed for six Diet Cokes when we only ordered three — something we only realised after getting home. The food was average at best but overpriced, and for those who are gluten-free, the options were nearly non-existent. The one gluten-free pasta dish available was poor quality.

The service was also far below expectations. We dined in the domes, where staff neglected us for most of our visit. When they did come by, they often had an attitude. It was our friend’s birthday, and we had requested the cake with candles to be brought out for dessert. Despite checking with staff three times, it never came, and instead, we were told we only had five minutes left in the dome. Ultimately, we had to take the cake home, completely ruining the special moment.

Overall, this was an extremely unhappy experience. Save your money and choose a restaurant that values its customers. We won’t be returning.

Updated review due to their reply -

Firstly, as I’ve seen from other reviews, my concerns regarding rude and unprofessional staff are not isolated. Dismissing my experience by claiming the staff were not rude does not align with what I, and others, have experienced. As a former hospitality worker, I fully understand the challenges of working in a busy restaurant, but these challenges do not excuse unprofessional treatment of customers.

Secondly, your reply contains false information. We were not offered tables inside as you claim, and we were asked to vacate our table at 6:50pm—not at 10pm as you stated—so your reasoning about following legal restrictions is irrelevant in this case.

We understand that our time in the booth was limited; however, we didn’t even stay for our full allocated time as we were waiting for the cake to be brought out. Despite asking multiple times and being told it was on its way, we waited 45 minutes with no resolution. We wished we could have left sooner, but the delay and lack of communication prevented us from doing so.

Your dismissive tone and misrepresentation of facts in your reply only further highlight the neglect and lack of regard for customer concerns. I hope you take this feedback and work on improving both your service and how you handle feedback...

Booked a Dome hour daughters 21st birthday on St. Patricks Day. I had taken up banners, balloons (& helium) etc, as I was told they would decorate it for me. When we arrived we were told that they had an influx of people for St. Patricks and they had to clear the entire Dome as glass was smashed, which was fine, we waited inside. When our Dome was ready, I was not impressed, the banners were not up properly and were falling down, the number balloons were not fully inflated, so these were falling down, and only 2 ordinary balloons were inflated and attached to weights I had left (I wasn't expecting all 30 balloons I left to be up due to space but a little more). I went to try & fix the banner that was taking down only to find empty glasses behind the seating with my balloon weights inside with ribbon & burst balloons attached. Keeping in mind that I was told it had to be completely cleared due to broken glass, I don't see how these empty glasses could be missed. This then made me think that they had used my balloons, weights, ribbon etc to decorate for St Patrick's Day, the decor I left was in the colours required & when I got home everything I had left that day was was in the box, except for the balloons, of which only 2 out of 30 had been used in our Dome. I wouldn't have minded if they did do this, they only had to say, but to think that they've lied, for some reason doesn't sit well with me. I don't think I would book a Dome again, the seating is very low for the table, so was having to sit at the edge to eat. It felt very claustrophobic & there was only 5 of us, so can't imagine what it would be like with 8 people. It was warm enough as there is a heater, also a bit of hassle having to zip up/ down everytime. So no not for me I'm afraid.

The food was very mediocre especially for the price. The staff were lovely, but to think that perhaps I was lied to... well no thanks.

All in all, the celebration was kind of ruined from the onset, Dome not ready, lack of decorations put up, then to be left thinking you've been lied to. So, sorry...

Went tonight (22/05/22) for a family meal for 4 with our dog.

We had the Haddock, a Margherita pizza and two steak pies.

Fish was very good sized and priced accordingly as was the pizza which looked well made & authentic.

Unfortunately the two steak pies were seriously underwhelming and seriously over priced for the portion & quality served.

I have worked in the leisure industry for almost three decades and my wife is a retired chef, we both know cheap catering prepacked pies when we see & taste them.

The giveaway is the size and the underside with the foil tray pattern left behind after cooking

Added to the pies were only 3 pieces of tender stem broccoli and 4 pieces of carrot, the mash serving was about the size of a large serving spoon.

Attached are some photo's.

The steak pie flavour was good, well cooked, but at ÂŁ14.50 is not great, more veg and a larger helping of mash would have helped offset the meagre pie but they shouldn't be serving cheap catering pies at this price anyway.

The desserts were of similar lower end quality with the brownie being cut from a large catering foil tray of the sorts you get in places like Premier Inn.

Overall it was basic and middle of the road except the pizza which looked like some effort had been put in to hand make it.

For the record we gave feedback at the time.

Service was excellent and was better than the food would imply.

Last week we ate at the Tickled Trout, paid about ÂŁ10 more roughly but the quality was on a much higher level.

Honest assessment is that the food quality is on a level somewhere between a family cafe and...

I booked a dome for my daughter’s 17th birthday as she’d been looking at them for a while. Have to be honest and say if it wasn’t for the dome we probably wouldn’t have visited as I thought the menu didn’t have as much option as somewhere we would usually go. I needn’t have worried as everything we ordered tasted amazing - obviously having less options on the menu means they can really put their all into the dishes they do offer. Portion sizes were great too. Waiters were friendly and were always on the go, passing by and would check in to make sure we were ok. The dome itself had a Bluetooth speaker, heater and blankets. Looked clean and well maintained. The only minor downside was that you’re not allowed to stay in the dome after 10pm due to licensing laws but that’s obviously outwith their control and we were told we would be very welcome indoors. We managed to park the car right outside but as far as I’m aware there was only a few spaces, not sure if there was any further round and also not sure if you’re allowed to park in the hospital as it’s only a short walk away from there. Will definitely book the dome again for special events and would eat at the restaurant too in future. **Had originally booked for one night and unfortunately my daughter was unwell so we couldn’t make it. I emailed (outwith the timescale for cancelling the booking) and they kindly agreed to change the date so I didn’t lose my payment for the dome**
