Chimes of India has so many 5 star reviews for a reason. Firstly the food is second to none. And the staff are so friendly and welcoming which helps in what is a relatively small space.
Dining with my brother who regularly comes back to Glasgow for "a proper curry", we have dined in most of the well-known restaurants throughout the city. And, as someone who was recently on a business trip to India, he agreed with me that Chimes is absolutely the best we've had, and every bit as good or better than some of the ones he enjoyed whilst there.
Opting for the mixed pakora starter to share, a very healthy portion of veg, chicken, fish & haggis pakoras arrived with what must be said was a small portion of two sauces. That would be my only complaint - more of those delicious sauces please! Pakoras were all lovely, though I personally thought the haggis version wasn't really anything special. A minor, personal thing there - other diners next to us were singing it's praises. Personally I probably enjoyed the fish pakora most.
For the mains, I had the South Indian Chilli Garlic Lamb, which was spicy as the owner kindly pointed out - that's what I wanted and that's what I got. Outstanding. My companion had the House Special Desi Chicken, which he stated immediately was the best single plate of curry he's had. Both were truly delicious and this was complemented with a side of Chhole Aloo Masala - an absolute must as an accompaniment. Both of us agreed too that this would have made an amazing full dish. Maybe next time.
With a generous portion of Pilau Rice and some lovely Plain Paratha, the entire meal was wonderful. The bonus of being able to bring your own wine for a low corkage fee was terrific, as admittedly, the choice of wines isn't spectacular.
But these little minor things should not deter anyone from visiting here, as the food and service easily puts this top of the pile in the highly competitive world of Glasgow Curry houses!
Our waitress was lovely, the owner spoke to us several times, and couldn't have been nicer - all this with very prompt service made our trip to Chimes of India so worthwhile. The final surprise was when the owner brought us two complimentary drinks at the end of our meal - lovely touch. We will not be trying out other Indian restaurants when my brother next visits - we'll be back here to try more things from their wonderful,...
Read moreI’m sorry I don’t get any pleasure leaving a bad review what so ever but the 4.9 rating on this place is an absolute fix, lies & deceived me, it ruined mine & my partners anniversary meal, wee did plan on going to Murphy’s Pakora Bar but strangely it was closed, Crimes Of India was just around the corner so after seeing the 4.9 rating, wee jumped a bit to soon & thought wee would try it out, the Mango Lassi was like mango yogurt, far to thick, off to a worrying start, the Chicken Pakora was the nastiest, so dry, the Spicy Chicken Momos weren’t much better, on to the mains, all wee could hear from the kitchen was a microwave door shut then ping, wee got a Pilau Rice, a South Indian Lamb, Chilli Chicken, a Paratha & a Chilli Cheese Naan, none of this food was fresh & made to order, micro rice & shop bought naans, it was terrible, wee left most of it, £58 out of pocket, for a couple that loves Indian Cuisine, this goes down as our worst Indian ever, this is the next day & I’m still raging, a feel as if I’ve been robbed of my hard earned cash, big changes are needed...
Read moreIt’s my second time at Chimes of India and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I previously tried their takeaway offering which was wonderful and booked a last minute table for 4 this evening.
The staff were so friendly and were able to seat us 30 minutes prior to our original reservation which was perfect, given the typical Glasgow weather.
The restaurant itself is very welcoming and a great spot for enjoying a comforting meal with family & friends.
As for the food itself it was absolutely delicious and very well priced for the area. Our party had the butter paneer, lamb rogan josh and a lamb madras and we all thoroughly enjoyed, the garlic naan is fabulous as well! We even opted to have dessert which was gulab jamun served with vanilla ice cream and I must say it’s the best I’ve had. The restaurant serves lots of premium spirits, wine and beers and if you so desire you can also BYOB for a corkage fee.
Absolutely worth a visit and in my opinion it’s the best Indian...
