Dropped in for coffee and dessert, it was jumping .... may, paw and the waines clearly love this place. We were met at the door by maitre de whom immediately realising there was no available tables - fetched one from the back stage and set it in a space near the door - while apologising for the odition and lack of room. This guy is on the button and knows how many beans make 5. TmStaff were right there with menus and then after offering yo take a drinks order left us to it .... be warned neither the quality or the quantity here is disappointing - this is not Di Maggio's, nor is the tariff .... Desserts were homemade just like my mama never graced our family table with, they were impressive and satisfying. Think Nardini's on steroids and the service was straight out of Downten Abbey .... is it inexpensive and tacky? No, as I already explained, they offer an Ashton Lane restaurant experience, without affectation or compromise. Visit for the massive steaming hot pizza, the knickerbockerglory, the Italian ice cream (made by a 70 year old man no less), sit back, relax and let Coia' s Cafe Restaurant pamper you. In Glasgow you rarely find an establishment like this anymore, most disappeared with names Wood and Selby's, Pettigrew and Stevens, Paisley's, so bring your parents, the kids, friends, sit, eat, drink, enjoy. 5 upmarket, tasty,...
Read moreI popped in for a bite to eat as I had been visiting a relative in the nearby hospital. My visit was faultless! Good food, service and surroundings. Staff were friendly and helpful and there was a really nice atmosphere in this spotlessly clean establishment. I hadn’t been in this restaurant for years and had forgotten it was there until a road diversion took me down Duke Street. I won’t be forgetting about it in the future. It’s so handy when visiting Glasgow Royal Hospital or for Tourists in and around the Cathedral and museums. Excellent food choices from chip shop specials to Steaks, sea food, pizza and pasts. I had steak pie which was delightful. To follow, one scoop of ice cream with a flake in it and old fashioned raspberry sauce. If I could have fitted it in, I would have had one of the mouth watering desserts on the menu. This is an all round cafe/restaurant. Good for a snack, an informal or formal lunch or dinner. They have outside seating at the front and side of the building. I found a parking place outside the restaurant but I would imagine that this might pose a bit of an issue at peak times. All in all, I had a wonderful experience and look forward to...
Read moreWell, this place has been going since 1948 so I'm sure my review won't harm anyone. Firstly I could not find the entrance easily because I came from the other side and entered through the shop part. I did not know who to tip because I had four people approaching regularly which I did not like either... its like the wished me away.. (I started with a cappuccino) and was hoping to have dinner later. They did not get my order right and I had chocolate on a soy cappuccino which mars the taste. They fixed it...but.... I had a few quiet moments when I realised the maitre D was behind where I was sitting (the hidden entrance) and he was vaping on the sly. Horrible for autistics with SPD. Don't be that MaitreD... It could have been a 5... don't crowd people. Give us 1 waiter. Don't put chocolate on good coffee unless you ask. (Actually, your coffee wasn't all that good) Grain and Grind does better coffee. I was brought the bill by 1 person and had it brought back by another. I left a £1.30 tip on £4.50 cuppa . So nearly £6. and sensory meltdown later I was NOT staying for my £18 something fish and chips. It was not a pleasant...
