The food was very very tasty, loved our mains and desserts as well, can't fault it. The restaurant itself looks very nice as well and it's in a great location. Unfortunately we did leave with a bad taste, as all 3 out of 3 staff members made us feel like we were not welcome. The person who greeted us at the door and showed us to our table barely even said hello, not a smile, not anything that you would expect from a host in such a lovely looking restaurant. Our table was in a bit of a weird and central spot by the entrance and close to a loud-ish table of 4. We first asked a lady behind the bar if we could be seated at another one which was just being cleaned, because I wanted to avoid getting sensory overload and sit in a more quiet and out of the way spot. The lady behind the bar made a weird and judgy face when we asked her, maybe she forgot that we could actually see her...I'm not sure. I also asked another member of staff who came back to clean our newly chosen table to confirm it was ok for us to move there. His reaction was really unexpected and unprofessional and really upset me. He looked at me after I asked him about the table with a sort of confused face and said 'Does it really matter?'. As someone with additional needs, it can be pretty challenging to ask for adjustments like this, and to get this reaction back was a bit of a slap in the face. I really didn't feel like we were asking for much either. Before we left I approached this staff member to explain to him my side, and he apologised and said the table we chose was reserved and that's why he didn't want to seat us there. That is perfectly fine and I could've accepted it. The problem was, that that wasn't...
Read moreThis is a great restaurant. I chose it based on the reviews and photos here and wasn’t disappointed. The menu is fantastic as it is cleverly balanced between different types of dishes, which nonetheless create a coherent narrative. I felt I could bring anyone here and they would find something they’d be happy with eating. There are ‘small plates’ that you could have as starters or tapas-style, there are standards for those who like fish and chips or burger and there are a selection of restaurant main courses. All looked amazing and served with equal attractiveness on the plate. We shared a small plate of crispy beef glazed with Irn Bru, ‘cos why not?? It was delicious. We both had duck breast a l’orange, which was beautifully cooked and presented. The service is better than most more expensive restaurants, probably because of the Maitre D who has an incredible eye for detail. He noticed my partner was struggling with a little jug and simply brought one with a handle without needing to be asked. Great wine choice and excellent...
Read moreWent for dinner last night with some friends after reading good reviews, and we weren't disappointed.
Some good choices on the menu - duck, lamb, Venison, and some more traditional fish and chips and steaks. Would have liked to have seen more fish and sea food, but that's just my personal choice.
Service was great, really friendly and helpful, it's nice when someone takes some time to talk to you.
Food was all excellent, I'm not going to recommend anything in particular as it was all 1st rate.
I had the monk fish and mushrooms to start, which were in a delicious cream sauce - it was different and very tasty. Others had the haggis scotch egg and salmon, equally delicious.
For mains, two of us had the lamb, and two had the duck. Both were beautifully cooked with great sauces and veg.
Desserts were equally good.
We've lived in the area for 16 months and struggled to find good places to eat as a lot are geared up to the tourist market, and food and service are poor. It's good to be able to add another restaurant to our...
