The Doublet is a traditional wee pub in Glasgow's west end that does occasional gigs in their upstairs lounge bar and my wife and I were there for the first time last night for Stanley Brinks and Freschard who were playing their second night there. The tickets said doors were 19:30 but in the event we didn't get in for another half an hour after that. Not necessarily the bar's fault (the artists notoriously like a swally and a fag I think they might have been dragging their heels a bit doing exactly that). The downstairs bar was very busy and the atmosphere was good as was the service from the young bar staff. It's not cheap though ... £6.50 for a pint of Estrella is what I'd expect in a trendy midtown brasserie not a small bar patronised by students and locals rather than professional types and tourists. So in short we had a great night and I look forward to future gigs in The Doublet. Just to touch briefly on a couple of downsides though; the stools in the upstairs lounge become quite uncomfortable after about quarter of an hour and are like implements of medieval torture after about 45 minutes ... and (importantly) the men's toilets are absolutely stinkin' and definitely need to be cleaned...
