My wife and I have been to the restaurant today (14/07/21) to redeem a Gourmet Voucher kindly gifted to us. It has been a total let down: I would give 0 star, if only I could. The service was very poor, but what disappointed us most was the actual food, which was simply not Indian.
SERVICE: We could only make it at 2 PM, so I tried to book a table by then. Their online booking system allowed me to do so, and that is what I did. Instead of telling us that the kitchen closed at 2 PM, they changed the booking time to 1.45 without telling us ANYTHING in order to keep the booking (and, thus, the money). Once in, the waiter has been pressurising all the time to order the food (has asked us 3 times) and then leave (believe it or not, but I asked him to allow us to finish our glass of wine).
FOOD: We ordered a number of dishes, including starters, a chicken tikka and a prawn based dish. With the exception of the starters, which were not bad, ALL the other dishes were totally and utterly tasteless. The only ingredient you could clearly identify was cream literally everywhere.
REPLY TO THE FEEDBACK FROM THE OWNER:
Dear Sir, if you receive a booking for 2 PM and then the booking is suddenly changed to 1.45, it should be your first concern to inform the costumer, I believe.
Please, let me correct you on a few points:
The timings you have provided is all wrong, I am afraid. My wife and I turned up at 1.45, not a minute later. Upon our arrival we have been asked at least three times by the waiter what we wished to order. The waiter also specified that the "kitchen was closing at 2 PM". Had this been made clear, we would have not come in the first place. Moreover, I can assure you that we have been pressurised to "speed up" throughout the lunch, and it was far from pleasant.
The only reason why I have not complained about the very poor quality of our food is because the waiter hardly gave us time to eat it. So much so, in fact, that I have had to explicitly ask him to, at least, "allow us to finish our wine". This was because he wanted us out. Please, ask him.
Also, reminding your costumers that "your voucher is over anyway", as your waiter did, without even showing a list of the orders made, is not very professional, I believe. We ordered 3 lunch menus (11.95 x 3) and two 175 cl glasses of pinot (5.00 x 2). So, the total should be 45.85, but our voucher was of 50 GBP. I haven't asked for clarifications because, I assumed, that the white rice and the naan bread (as sides) made up the difference perhaps? Well, I believe that these considerations should be made by the waiter/ owner, certainly not by...
Worst Indian restaurant I’ve been to and I already went to many in the States, UK and Vietnam. Tl;dr: average food + incredibly rude service. I went here with an Indian friend and she told me the first thing they asked her was “are you here looking for a job”. Throughout the whole time we were served by completely different people messing up different things (two for taking order, one or two for explaining, one for bringing out the card reader, one for correcting the payment, etc). My friend asked what’s special/ good in the menu and they didn’t even know or bother to tell us. I ordered a three course lunch and asked whether I could switch dessert for a mango lassi. They did say yes but later charged that separately and denied what I said. They were like “fine then we’re giving you ice cream” but excuse me I didn’t get one before getting the bill?? I told them I would prefer an iced coffee but they gave me a hot flat white. Also they WROTE the bill with a very bad handwriting that we could barely make out anything. Even my Indian friend told me this is very rude, completely different vibe she would typically get from Glasgow. People dining there were mostly middle aged and not even Indian. How can you call yourself “fine dining” if you mess up big time like that? The food was also not that good. Everything just tasted average and were badly presented. Even the famous chicken tikka masala looked depressing as in the photo. Overall horrible experience. Wanna try the original chicken tikka masala? Cut yourself some slack and go to a proper Indian eatery than spending £14...
Read moreSad to say very disappointed in my latest visit to the Shish Mahal. The restaurant has history in my family so its not a review I wanted to write, however, I feel it’s due a honest review. I was part of a large party booking for the lunch offer, food was basic to say the least, nan was tasteless and over cooked. No food options for children and drink choices were very limited. Waiters were cold and straight faced, very limited in their customer service skills, apart from the waitress who offered us pleasant smiles when she served us. We felt we were a burden to them the whole visit. We had asked for them to bring out a cake to celebrate a birthday but they made us feel so awkward that we asked them not to bother. Despite the experience, we left a very generous tip which was received without a smile or thanks to the toddler that have it to them. There is so much variety in Glasgow these days with Indian food and the Shish will lose out with it’s dated menu and poor service with customers only returning out of loyalty other than a great dining experience. Receipts are hand written which isn’t helpful when trying to split the bill. If you want an average Glasgow Curry house experience from the 1980s, this is your place, but with all the other more authentic and exciting Indian food options available in Glasgow now, I will...
