Quite easily one of the worst coffee shop experiences we have ever had! Arrived about 3pm on Sunday to find every single table outside full of dirty dishes from previous customers. We had our dog with us and there is a huge lack of sit in dog friendly cafes in Troon so had no real choice of going somewhere else. So we took a seat and just waited for the table to be cleared. Which in fairness it was relatively quickly.
We then ordered two scones, a coffee and a hot chocolate. The drinks came first served in two paper cups with plastic lids! Not something you expect when paying around £4 per drink and sitting in in a cafe! But we would have seen past this had the quality been what we expected for the price. This sadly wasn’t the case though. My partners coffee was ok but my hot chocolate was utterly tasteless and tasted like a home made Cadbury hot chocolate you make at home with hot water! Both drinks were served with no spoon, no sugar, nothing. It felt like we had just ordered from a take away van! Yet we were going to be charged £8 odd for the pleasure! I wasn’t prepared to accept that so I politely took it back inside to the till and said to the chap I’m sorry but I’m not paying nearly £4 for a tasteless hot chocolate that tastes like a Cadbury’s home made effort served in a cardboard cup! No apology or anything just an “ahhh ok”.
I then went back outside to have my scone (which was brick hard on the outside) so we could just finish up and get on our way. I had barely just sat down and this abrupt member of staff came storming out with the box of hot chocolate they use showing it to me and stressing that it is definitely not Cadbury’s! At this point other tables seated outside are looking round somewhat perplexed by this confrontational behaviour to customers! We both couldn’t actually believe what had just happened! The member of staff then said to me “we probably just put your drinks in takeaway cups as we are nearly finished for the day!” I then pointed at the two other tables who had been served AFTER us and they all had proper cups and saucers! To that she had no response funnily enough! Wouldn’t it have been better and more professional to come out nicely and politely and ask what was wrong with our order and then ask what you could maybe do to make it right instead of coming out being immediately confrontational to customers? And if you are open until a set time, your service and standards should be adhered to right up to the very last customer. You should never be putting out beverages in disposable cups just to save cleaning a few extra mugs at the end of the day! It’s embarrassing really!
Overall I have never ever felt a need to ever leave a negative review for any business before. But when you are treated like this and offered products of such a sub standard quality, I just feel it important to let others know so they can hopefully take their business elsewhere to a place that actually cares for their clientele and offers good quality products and service!
Needless to say we will...
Read moreLoads of reasons to visit this brilliant wee place. Let's start with excellent coffee and food from a varied menu. I've tried their delicious homemade soup and a fab breakfast roll (well-filled with quality ingredients). There's also an excellent choice of sweet treats from Malteser cake (still drooling!) to delicious fresh scones and everything in between. They're accommodating of food intolerances too - when I asked about a particular dish they offered to make an alternative version for me.
The loos are totally spotless, which is less common than you'd think even in otherwise clean eateries, and the whole place (inside and out) is very clean and well looked-after. All a good sign for the kitchen, I always think!
Drift is actively dog-friendly - furry pals are welcomed rather than just tolerated - which makes it far more relaxing when you're out with the pooch.
Accessibility wise, it's all on one level other than a low step (max 5cm) at the entrance. Loos also on ground level so great for anyone with mobility issues. There's loads of on-street parking all around too.
All in all, Drift is a great wee find. Perfect after a walk on the beach or a tootle round the wee independent...
Read moreVisited on Saturday for the first time. We had a long wait for a table, Troon was busy. Eventually we secured a table. Service was bery slow, not enough staff. Bizarrely, our cakes and drinks arrived before our meals. My mum had finished her cake and coffee and our meals hadn't arrived. My niece srarted eating her cake while waiting for her meal as she was so hungry. Tiny teapot for two, just scraped a cup each out of it. My roll eventually arrived, square sausage was cold, my sister said her bacon roll was same. We didn't complain, we had been there for so long, and weren't asked if everything was ok. You then have to queue to pay along with people ordering takeaway, a long process. This is a busy cafe, we defintely...
