Was hoping for a nice afternoon of lunch, laughter and a few drinks on Saturday afternoon with my sister and a friend. I've been to this pub loads of times and the food is generally average pub grub. Fairly ok food for decent prices. As always the bar staff, and floor staff were lovely. We ordered food and drinks and sat outside as it was a nice afternoon. We ordered starters that came in lots of little bowls on a plank, which on the whole were lovely; although I did ask for a replacement dip as there was a thick skin on the top. I was advised 'thats what happens', but it was replaced easily - thank you! My sister had ordered Tikka Masala, that came like soup, my friend had the macaroni, that was ok, and I ordered Lasagne. We were actually having a chuckle at the soup-like Masala, until I took a bite of my lasagne... It tasted of nothing but pure rosemary. it was so strong that I thought I couldn't eat it - and I never don't eat my food! I took another mouthful in case it was only the first mouthful, but that was the same. The lasagne was totally full of dried rosemary that masked the taste of the whole dish. I asked my two companions to taste it, in case it was just me, but they too were horrified about the strong flavour of rosemary. I really couldn't eat it. When the table came to be cleared, we said very nicely to the staff member about the two dishes - although the Masala was edible - and he said he'd speak to someone about it. He returned and offered us free deserts, which we didn't want, so we requested a refund. Soon afterwards the manager came to our table, and offered a refund for the Masala, but not the Lasagne. We were all a bit bemused, as the Lasagne was by far the worst dish, so we questioned it. I was then told by the manager he 'couldn't take into account my tastebuds'. His condescending and borderline aggressive manner actually rendered me speechless. I explained that my companions had also tasted it and held the same opinion, to which he shrugged his shoulders. I suggested that perhaps he may want to have some on his break, in order to get a true picture of this dish they were serving. He responded by saying he had already had the Lasagne, and was not giving us a refund for it. His unfriendly and patronising manner left us reeling, and literally speechless. We decided to finish our drinks and leave. Ten minutes later, just before we left, the manager appeared at our table saying he had just tried the Lasagne, and yes you could taste the herbs, but that it was alright. He then put a refund for both meals on the table. He did not once even hint at an apology. This experience totally ruined my day and today I still find myself reeling that a pub manager feels that it was ok to speak to customers the way he did to us, and I really hope he is not showing this type of example to his staff. Maybe he doesn't realise we get to chose where to spend our hard...
Read moreMe and my two pals decided to meet up at the First Edition for a few drinks. It was a Halloween party night and was very busy. Three mature guys in their fifties surrounded by lots of fancy dressed young people was pretty funny and although the music was a touch to loud to be able to comfortably talk it was good fun. Its a really nice place and I would definitely go back and if your in to sports then they have some big TVs to really enjoy it. Haven't tried any food there yet but may do next time. The one thing I would suggest is some of the single seats at the tables need replaced. The cushions are done and they are uncomfortable. One good thing about being in your fifties, was as we queued to get in. The door staff were checking all the ID ages. However when we walked up they politely welcomed us in. All in all a very nice place and...
Read moreThe First Edition is a brilliant pub with a great atmosphere. I recently visited with friends and we had a fantastic time. Booking was really easy and when we arrived our table was ready and waiting for us. The pub has a great beer garden, which is perfect for enjoying a drink in the sun. They also show live sports, so it's a great place to watch a game with friends.
The cocktail menu is extensive and the cocktails themselves are really well-made. The food menu is also really good, with a wide variety of tasty dishes to choose from. We all enjoyed our meals and the service was excellent. The staff were friendly and attentive, and they made sure we had everything we needed.
Overall, I had a great experience at The First Edition and I would definitely recommend it to others. I will definitely...
