Myself and my husband went for lunch today. I know the head chef so I told him I would pop in a day . Anyways when arrived we were shown to a seat and told to pick a table that seats two. We did that but felt that the tables are way to close together ,I felt like we had another couple in our conversation ,no.privacy at all you could hear all.chat around us. We sat ten minutes before the waitress brought us a menu and took.a coffee order. We waited ages on coffee as it had gotten busy . The food order took another 15 mins to be taken once coffee arrived. Once got food portion size was big and looked lovely. I ordered a cheese and ham with mustard sourdough sandwich and a side of fries , my hubby ordered tempura chicken and soup . ( Small ) his food was lovely. Mine on other hand sandwich was dry , no bitter or sauce to hold it together loads of filling tho x was dry to difficult to swallow. I tried to get attention of a waitress to complain eventually manged when they were serving another table next to us. She took it back to kitchen for a sauce. I explained the menu said mustard but there was none on it.when it came back it was just the same no mustard and dry so I left it. Not that any waiting staff checked I was happy with the replacement. We waited around 25 min to get table cleared when she asked if I enjoyed it to which I said it was a sandwich they got wrong twice ! I am disappointed in the service there. The food seems hit and miss and menu for sandwich poor especially if you get served something other than what...
Read morePreviously a five star review. Not been here for a while. The food, staff and atmosphere very good and the food was lovely BUT the toilet changes is such a shame. I'm ok with communal toilets but ultimately I feel bad for the females that need to use. I visited today and it's pretty obvious that there's a much higher traffic through the toilets (that's what naturally happens when they become male female communal!) and it's clear the frequency of checking and maintaining hygiene within the mixed toilet has remained the same. Not a good experience and it's genuinely something that would stop me recommending or returning to The Duke now. Small and significant differences really matter in this area. I understand society has changed but should out women and daughters expect this particular area to come with such a significant drop in standards? I found myself cleaning up for the next customer and recommend that the three women I was with not to go to use the toilet. It's a real and tangible pity that although The Duke still has good food, atmosphere and service that such a basic customer friendly facette (the toilets) is now profoundly letting their customers down so obviously. I'm afraid to say I can't recommend anymore and certainly won't be taking the ladies in my life their for exactly this reason...and it...
Read moreThought place was beautifully decorated and we sat down at table to order food. I ordered macaroni and my husband ordered a chicken dish. Macaroni l ate because l was hungry it wasn't macaroni it was another pasta, big tubes in a watery cheese sauce and the smallest piece of garlic bread lve seen. To give this to someone is just embarrassing l thought. My husbands chicken he said was nice but hardly anything on his plate. To me the food is overpriced for what you get. Don't mind paying these prices l do in other places but food is well worth money but not this restaurant. Was thinking of getting a dessert until l seen the next table getting there's. Looked liked tiny squares of cheesecake with cream or icecream like a child's portion. Shame such a lovely place inside but no never...
