I will start by saying in pains me to write a bad review in the current climate as most restaurants are trying to recover from the pandemic. The however to that is I just cant express how bad my experience was at this restaurant that I feel the need to review. I had booked a table for 4 people and one high chair and arrived promptly at 6pm. There was only three other tables in at the time. The waiter didn't even bother to lift his head and acknowledge us for a good four/five minutes, too busy taking phone orders then rustling through receipts. When he did he asked if we had a booking then pointed to a table and told us to go there. Didn't even take us to our seats. After ten minutes I had to ask again for a high chair for my two year old. He then took our drinks order about 20 minutes after arrival and handed us two menus between four. Even when taking our order he was dismissive and looked annoyed. Even though Tennent's was on the menu, only Cobra was available. Our starters arrives 50 minutes after arriving, I would point out that food was nice but not presented that great, no garnish or onion with pakora, just placed on a plate. We had to go up to the desk to order more drinks and when they arrived he didn't even take our empty starter plates away. We sat for another 20 minutes before they were cleared. By this point it was 7.30 and after 1 and half hours my two year old had had enough so I left the restaurant to drop my child off to my mums. After coming back around ten minutes later the main course was served and again the food was nice but I was just so annoyed at how we had been treated that I didn't even enjoy it. To top of my night the £87.30 bill appeared and we were told the card machine was broken and that here was a sign on the door we should have read. I asked him do you not think you should have informed your customers this when they first arrived at the restaurant, he just dismissed me and told me to go to the cash machine across the road. Its such a shame the chef is let down by terrible front of house staff who do not care one bit about there customers. I will...
Read moreTwo of us eating on a Saturday night at 6pm (Bookings are recommended after 7pm if you want to get a table). We were seated immediately by the owner and served drinks and popadums by the waiter Kurren who then explained the menu and pointed out that there was a buffet option. We chose the buffet and after a few minutes wait were served with a starter comprising of chicken tikka, pakoras, wings, onion rings, garlic mushrooms, etc. After the starter we moved on to the buffet which was in a corner of the restaurant. There were 7 or 8 curries, some vegetarian options, chips and naan breads to choose from. After the curry course we helped ourselves to dessert from a fridge in the same area. The Good: The place was clean and well maintained. The food was excellent and of a high standard. On visiting the buffet I noticed that the trays were not full. This is a good thing - it shows that the kitchen isn't being lazy, they are cooking to order and the food is fresh. The selection was also good - most buffet restaurants offer only 3 or 4 curries whereas there were more here. The service: It was excellent. Our waiter was polite and helpful. He made us feel very welcome. The price: There's a set course buffet which involves free drinks and tea/coffee for £19.95. We chose the basic buffet (drinks extra) for £10.95. As we were visiting on a Saturday we were paying £1 more than a weekday night but for 2 large Cokes and all you can eat for just £27 between the 2 of us you just can't go wrong. Top that off with kids eating off the buffet for £5.95 and you're talking one of the most inexpensive restaurants around. And for that kind of quality that's brilliant. The bad: I'm being really picky here and to be honest I didn't notice it - my partner did - but a bit of Indian background music instead of George Michael would have made the atmosphere perfect. A really tiny pont though and GM certainly didn't ruin the night. In summary: The Taj advertises itself as the Best Indian Restaurant in Paisley. I think they...
Read moreThe starter platter (which, although stated is buffet is cooked fresh when you enter) is beautiful, the best starters from an Indian I've ever had.
We were served by what could only be described as a Bombay badboy version of Vikki Pollard from Little Britain.
The delivery drivers spent the meal near us coughing in our vacinity.
The main courses were lacking and the desserts almost non-existant. I had 3 desserts, one of which was 2 micro profiteroles. I asked for more, as there was another couple there and my companion I was told we came too late. It was 8pm.
Bombay bad boy said he closed at 9pm, clearly a lie and should have informed us when we came in.
He was insulting about me eating 3 teensy fridge-tasting desserts and said I suould have left some... Not exactly a buffet.
I admit the stsrters were epic and we could request more but after that, dried cjicken dishes (all 3 of them and 1 lamb) for main and 3 desserts total for 4 patrons, at 8pm was really...
