It's yrs since i was in the corner cafΓ© in Falkirk. I was put off by the very small baked tattie πŸ₯” that i got. I saw a notice inside the window πŸͺŸ that they welcome REVIEWS so you know me - back in i went on Monday 19/2/24. Most tables were nearly all full so i just sat at a table for 4 as there were only a couple sat there. I had a long wait & no one brought me a menu, but the guy sat next to me spotted a few at other tables further back & went & brought me one & i didn't order a baked tattie (coward u might think) but i was more interested to find out if their lentil soup was thick or watery & i like it thick & so it was BUT i was let down πŸ‘‡ as happens in a few eating establishments that the soup 🍲 not only being watery but is only warm & that was the problem in The Corner Cafe I could have asked for it to be heated up, but i just woolfed it down so that i could try their carrot πŸ₯• & coriander soup & told Denis the tall Scotsman that his soup tasted good & it was nice & thick but only warm for which he apologised When the carrot πŸ₯• & coriander soup came it was also thick & piping hot πŸ”₯ and the bread was lovely & soft. I had a flat white coffee & it tasted lovely & strong, with a nice feather pattern on top. I WILL BE BACK. DV I did go back in on Sat.24/2/24 it was about 2.15pm & I was looking forward to enjoying a lovely thick hot πŸ”₯ bowl of their lentil soup, but there was none left 😞 so i opted for their sweet potato soup & when it arrived i said to the waitress - did u manage to find some lentil soup left over? & she said none left & that's the sweet potato soup or words to that effect & to me it looked like lentil soup & it tasted sweet & it was thick & πŸ”₯ just like their lentil soup. I then went to their toilets & if your disabled there are none upstairs or down πŸ‘‡ stairs & you will have to use the ones across the way in the Howgate. I mentioned that to Daniel on the way out, about putting up a notice to that effect. I ventured into the Corner Cafe AGAIN at around 11.30am Mon. 26/2/24 Daniel is his name & not Dennis who i would call the head waiter & deputy manager - maybe he thinks he is, but he is not πŸ˜‚ Daniel is a very pleasant guy & is soft spoken. I asked for a coffee & a fruit scone but he forgot to ask me if i wanted it warmed up & as usual i forgot to tell him that SO i can't fault him for that & i know that they would have gladly warned it up. I had already read about a reviewer regarding the many succulent sultanas that were in them scones & I counted only 5 black things (probably & hopefully the sultanas) poking out of the top halve of the scone. I didn't count how many were in the bottom halve of my scone 'cos it was nearly all gone. I couldn't wait to get into it sorry 😞 bout THET. The massive scone did taste good πŸ‘ & the 2 portions of butter were ample & they didn't skimp on the lovely thick tasting jam. So if you pop in remember to ask for it to be warmed up & maybe those bits of fruit will soften up like the cushions u can sit on BUT don't sit in the damp ones at the window πŸͺŸ There the condensation ones 🀭 Back in again Tue 27/12/24 This time with a friend, to hopefully have a large baked tattie πŸ₯” with chicken πŸ₯ tika in it & their side salad. WELL as u can see the meal on my very slightly warm plate - just enough to take the chill off it as it couldn't be a πŸ”₯ plate because of the cold salad on it. That's the first time i've experienced that in a cafe b4 just gr8 πŸ‘ Anyway it was a colourful picture of beauty on my plate & it wasn't that cheap lettuce that can stick in your throat - some of it was crisp & varied - very nice & the baked tattie or potato (if u want) was cooked to perfection & i could even eat all the skin off the potato, where as in many cafes one can't because a patch off the skin is all tough, and their were no tough bits of chicken πŸ₯ either in/on the tattie, all was πŸ’― Β° Back in again 23/8/24 for a Fruit scone & a lattie. When it came I asked for it to be warmed up & that was no problem for Daniel to do. Fri. 18/10/24 Same great scones & coffee πŸ˜‹

Corner Cafe has some good points, the cakes are certainly very good but my problem with it is the same as before. 6 tables occupied, 4 served and eating, no problem there, so just 2 tables to serve, but despite being 3 members of staff, we had to ask when we were getting our coffees. This has happened more than once before and shows poor customer service. Don't get me wrong, don't mind if a place is genuinely busy, but not when staff are standing about chatting. The other issue of filling in a breakfast roll, I had a black pudding andd the size of the portion is very dissapointing, other cafe's manage, why not Corner Cafe. There is one other point that seems to be an issue, the cafe can be quite damp with condensation, to the point where mould is starting to appeare on the wall above the door to the toilets and kitchen area. Corner Cafe needs to address these last 2 problems before it gets bad. Sorry, I like to try and support local business but there os a limit.

Gorgeous choice of cakes and other things. We stopped by here for some refreshments and ended up taking away. The cafΓ© itself was very busy, clearly popular, and despite this this service was prompt and friendly. Coffee, 7/10, nice flavourful coffee with a good kick. Carrot cake, 8/10, presentation is half the battle with tasty treats, and this massive cupcake charmed me immediately. The cake itself was lovely and moist, though could have done with a bit more spice or some extra fruit/nuts for texture. Icing on top was very generous and well balanced - creamy and sweet without being too sweet.

Don't be fooled by all these 5 star reviews. This place is a health hazard of the highest order. The moment you walk in you're greeted by black mould on the door, walls and ceiling. This has been ongoing for a few years now as they have problems with condensation.

The only "good" thing about this place is the coffee, its pretty decent. However the entire place needs shut down and cleaned before someone becomes seriously ill.

Edit

Please note the review I have written is completely my own experience with this cafe, and nothing to do with the previous 'incident' where a video circulated online which the owner of the cafe has written in his copy-and-pasted response to me.

My husband and I have visited this cafe a handful of times over the years and previously wrote a trip advisor review ADVISING the owner of dealing with said mould 2 years ago. We came in approximately a few months ago and noted black mould all over the place. Baffled that people would sit inside let alone work in there. The uneasiness we felt sitting in here was extremely off putting and will honestly...

Cleanliness is pretty poor here, especially for dogs considering they’re a dog friendly cafe. Every time i’ve went in with my dog, he’s sitting/lying on a floor covered in crumbs, napkins etc; it really wouldn’t hurt to give the place a sweep every once in a while. Sitting at a table surrounded by all that and the fact that our table was stained and sticky just was not appealing whatsoever. If they let their front of house look this way id be a bit concerned as to what their back of house looks like.Food is okay but the quality does not reflect their price points. Service is satisfactory but definitely has some room for improvement and that’s me being kind considering the waitresses come over to serve you with an attitude and could not make it more clear that I was being an inconvenience because I asked them to wipe the table due to its filth. Overall, theres better places you can spend your money for a better experience. I used to love this cafe but recently it’s really let...
