We are in the UK visiting from Canada. We wanted a venue where we could meet with family who live here and enjoy a meal together. It did not go as planned. Our experience with this establishment was confusing from start to finish. I used their online reservation booking system to accommodate five diners. The day before our meal I received an email reminding me of the reservation and confirming that we were still planning on dining there. When the first member of our party arrived and informed a member of staff that we had a reservation, they responded with disbelief. "We don't do reservations." They unceremoniously directed him to go upstairs and "find a table." Confused because he had a copy of the email reservation on his phone, he never-the-less followed instructions and âfound a table.â The dining area was the same as the drinking and playing pool area. The latter had a group of young men around the table who were so loud that we could hardly hear each other speaking. After I went downstairs to order food (and drinks), it took an eternity to arrive, and when it did, it was lukewarm. It was an extraordinary experience without any personal attention to customer service or satisfaction. The website gave the impression that we would be dining, not sitting at a small pub table and doing all the work except cooking the food for ourselves. I do not recommend the New Market Bar for dining unless you are "grabbing a bite...
Read moreWent to New Market Bar tonight. There was 15 of us and we were upstairs, had ordered lots of drinks and were playing pool. A staff member came and dropped off 4/5 drinks and no one touched them as we werenât sure who had ordered them. It got to 25 mins after they arrived and one of my friends decided to try one to see what it was. About 5 minutes later, a woman came upstairs (member of staff) and told us that we had to pay for the drinks or leave because they were another tables drinks. We told her we hadnât touched them and she very rudely told us we shouldâve known what we had ordered. We told her we werenât paying for something which we hadnât ordered and hadnât drank and she told us to get out then. Tried to explain to her that we had been given those drinks and she wasnât interested. Kicked out (very rudely kicked out) for something which the staff members had done and when I tried to tell well she would be losing 15 peoples business she said I donât care if I lose your business. We used to go to New Market quite a lot but wonât be back after the treatment tonight. Shocking customer service for something which was clearly the...
Read moreI ordered food from an establishment that operates within the bar. The order was wrong so we went along to get it sorted. We are aware that the pub is not responsible for the business but the bartender (man with ginger curly hair) we spoke to initially blamed our delivery driver saying he delivered us the wrong address. However, the receipt attached to our bag was correct but the contents were wrong so it was the bartenders fault as he told us he had attached the receipts to the bags. Our order was âremadeâ but it was the same wrong order we had already received so once again was remade. The manager of the bar then came to speak to us and wanted to check we had ordered the correct thing which we had. She then offered us to get our original order correctly made again but by this point we had almost used up our paid parking and we had ordered over an hour ago. Overall, I understand that the bar is not responsible for the making of the food, however, the communication was poor, a staff member blamed someone else for their mistake, and the manager questioned us to see if we had...
