Just had a nice dinner at The Dowry, which has a lovely modern and unpretentious, informal ambiance, and is located in the heart of "old town Lerwick". I had the Shetland Haddock fish and chips paired with an Italian pilot grigio. The haddock was delicious, lightly-battered, and fresh tasting; the potato chips were crisp and perfectly flavoured. There was a serious problem at the kitchen and the food took overly long to arrive. Kudos to the staff, two of them, who apologized profusely for the delay, and they offered a complementary item (beverage) without hesitation. Overall, it was an enjoyable dinner experience, thanks to good food and a solid customer service ethos, well delivered by the staff members involved. We recognize that things can/do go wrong in the customer service business but "how staff are trained to make it right" for customers matters. Well done, The Dowry! Keep up the good work! Highly recommended!

Great setting in the centre of Lerwick. Very modern, sleek long bar with ample amounts of alcohol to sample. Book ahead if you’re keen to visit, esp on Fri/Sat evenings. I ate: Small plates: Rosemary focaccia, balsamic & Olive oil / Sweet tattie chips, paprika sea salt & maple mustard Mayo Main: Shetland Smoked Haddock & Parmesan Croquettes & creamy butter leek sauce Dessert: Local rhubarb poached in hibiscus, custard, tarragon, brandy snap & ginger crumb My only negative was that 10 mins before our allocated time was up we were forced to take our drinks to another table so they could sit the next customers down. Although the waitress apologised it left a bit of a sour taste, which was a shame. We were also sat right next to the front door and some guys were coming in/out without face masks which was uncomfortable.

this place was a perfect hideaway from the wet, windy weather. i sat on a lovely couch with a low table & got to watch the waves crashing on the pier out the window i ordered the belgian waffle with fresh fruit, maple syrup, and whipped cream (you get three toppings with your waffle order), and it did NOT disappoint. the fruit was SO fresh and flavorful (how do they do it on an island in the north atlantic??) and the cream was rich and thick. mmm amazing also - dogs allowed!!! i got to meet several dog friends!! my kind of place 😉

Went in for late lunch Tuesday.1st July .Sign said wait to be seated.. So I was given a menu & told to take a seat at table 7 .So I had to guess where the table was... not taken to the table by the waiting staff which I found very strange and poor customer service from the right off .The girl who took my order was polite & friendly. What I did notice there was about 5 staff hanging about talking around the bar area .No awareness of customer service is very unprofessional. The table next to me was completely shocked at the service too. They were clearly finished their mains and looking to order desert None of the waiting staff seemed bothered or aware of the table .No manager was about to coordinate staff to ensure good customer service etc ..it's a real shame as the place has a lovely interior and great potential but employing young inexperienced staff is no way to run a business. At one point couple of girls where down stairs at the toilet area and let out a large scream as someone I had given them a fright totally unprofessional & immature. I had a chicken burger and chips .The chicken burger was fine but the chips were poor cold crispy and tasteless with no potato inside I did let the young lad when paid for my meal he did apologize .I don't usually write negative views but this is an honest review .That I hope that you take on board my experience and implement much...
