Travelled 200 miles to visit here and the lounge was really busy but the lovely lady with the blonde bobbed hair was over to serve us quickly and she never had her head up the whole time. Cheerful helpful and very pleasant she was an absolute joy to deal with. I'd fruit juice mac and cheese chips and marrowfat peas then rice pudding and fruit cocktail. My partner had the soup ashet pie...steak not home made gravy veg peas and boiled potatoes then rice pudding and fruit. The soup was hot thick stick to your ribs stuff which he thoroughly enjoyed. Ditto his pie etc and the rice pudding.....TO DIE FOR. Only rated four stars because the macaroni was pretty tasteless and lacking in seasoning but it was piping hot and a good plate of grub. The marrowfat peas I thought were the dried ones boiled no juice like you'd get in a tin which we didn't mind but aside from that winner winner. Didn't see anyone having the roasts the breaded fish looked very tasty and the lady on the opposite table was praising it highly. Hats off to the lady in the kitchen....what a grafter and she was doing the dishes food orders tidying up and must have been roasting! There's no pretentiousness or snobbery here what you see is what you get but we left stuffed and very satisfied. One lovely thing I noticed there were a lot of older folks most known to the staff and the way the staff treated them was very touching and treating them very well and with respect. A lot of the elderly are treated like they're invisible or an inconvenience but the gentleman behind the bar was old school and it was so refreshing to see and hear....Great staff and they all worked...
Read moreThe pub is fine but the management are terrible. They recklessly risk people's lives with their selfish parking on the cycle path, despite there being a 2nd loading bay on Eglinton Rd. Not to mention the proprietor in particular has a dreadful attitude. No amount of £3 lunches can make up for their awful behaviour. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid!
EDIT: For the avoidance of doubt, the picture below is less than two years, as the lane has not been there for that length of time, and the notion that it was an "isolated incident" would be hillarious, if it were not an egregious lie. Furthermore, I resent your direct insinuation that I personally behave badly on a bike or am in any way responsible for alleged incidents (at this stage, I'm sincerely doubting either actually occurred). It just reinforces my original recommendation that people avoid this pub until ownership changes.
FURTHER EDIT: No pedestrian/cycle incidents reported in the last five years - maybe the police just simply forgot to record this allegedly serious...
Read moreBelieved this was a gem with a lovely bunch of the southsides finest. Visited many times with my elderly father who has dementia and been a regular customer for 20+ years regular and probably realistically more than 30 years plus. Quiet parents enjoyed meals and music in the lounge and when my mother passed I have enjoyed a few times in the bar and lounge with family & my dad. Dementia ridden father has been barred now, and that’s it. Far from caring the older management who may well face this outcome and as well the younger members of staff.. I hope their families don’t come across this kind of establishment, dementia shows in strange and wonderful ways - no two days are the same. Information is not held. Barring the disabled is low and I’m sure against the law. Hold your head in shame. And display a sign saying ‘not positive about disability’. I proudly am a south sider and will be letting the wider community know my story. ‘No publicity is bad...
