BANNED FOR QUESTIONING OWNER AND STAFF
I took a friend to lunch at Villa Toscana on Friday 8 June 2018. It was late, the order was timed at 13:24, and the place was very quiet, although it still took about half an hour for the food to be delivered; but it was worth waiting for. We forsook the £9.95 set menu for main course only. My friend had the Penne Arrabiata which he said "hit the spot". I went for the Linguine Frutta di Mare (sea food). As you can see from the picture this had one large langoustine, and an abundance of clams, calamari and muscles. This was an excellent dish which I struggled to finish. Service by our Albanian waiter was efficient and unobtrusive. My bill with two soft drinks was a very reasonable £25.70.
I returned to this restaurant on a number of occasions even going so far as to recommend it to a group of 4 tourists I met in a nearby street.
However on one occasion, I had to ask the owner if he would conduct his telephone business more discreetly when he was using the table next to mine as his office in an otherwise empty restaurant.
On another occasion a group of very loud Italian people who were not dining, appeared to be having a business meeting at an adjacent table, which made my guest and I feel very uncomfortable, as though we were intruding by having lunch.
On the last occasion I was there with my wife, the unkempt young staff in dirty t-shirts were unable to explain either of the specials on the board and when we were about to leave the owner came out of the kitchen and started an abusive rant which so far as I could determine included banning us from the restaurant, for which advice we were...
Read moreWhat a find! On a slow Wednesday evening the place was not very busy. We were immediately greeted as if we were old friends returning from a long trip. Everyone of the front of house staff was friendly and engaging. The owner, I assume, was particularly gregarious but balanced his time speaking with us and leaving us space to enjoy our meal.
We had the meatballs and a side salad for starters. The meatballs were delicious and the salad, fresh cut. We each chose risotto for the main, mine was Risotto Piccante, with spicy Italian sausage and red sauce. My wife chose the chicken risotto. Both were delicious and filled the bowls. Neither of us were able to eat it all. I finished dinner with an espresso which was absolutely the best I've had since we arrived in the UK 8 days ago.
Since our accents didn't match the area, webfell into conversations of "where are you from?". Turns out the owner came over from Rome on vacation over 40 years ago. It would appear he brought the right recipes for food and service with him.
Highly recommend this place both for amazing service and...
Read moreDined here on Friday 15th April with my partner and his son. Meal was lovely until I bit into what looked like a cocktail stick in my lasagne. The manager called kaz came over and asked if everything was ok I said no just found this stick in my lasagne and I’m lucky I didn’t swallow it, he said sorry about that and walked away, he came back over with the bill and I said are you not taking anything off the bill and he said no and went away, he came back and said you’re ok and I don’t think it was even in your mouth anyway and told me not to cause a scene on a Friday night, I wasn’t causing a scene he was!! He then said I’ll give you 10%off the bill and I said no that’s not enough as he had a bad attitude. Another waiter came over and said sorry and gave another 10% and was very nice and I told him his managers attitude was the worst I’ve ever had to deal with in a restaurant …. Never will we eat here again absolutely disgusting way to talk to a customer who had a cocktail stick...
