We received a gift voucher at Christmas for this restaurant. My husband and I booked for the 5 course tasting menu. Wow! Just Wow! I have recently had knee surgery and I am using walking sticks to mobilise. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by a wonderful member of staff and on seeing my predicament, she directed us to a spacious table (instead of the table for two that was assigned to us) We opted not to have the pairing drinks for the meal as I am taking strong painkillers and my husband was driving.
The first course consisted of delicate cheese dough balls and crostini with mackerel pate and pickled cucumber. 😋
Our next course was blue cheese souffle with a delicate wine and parmesan sauce. Absolutely heavenly.
Our third course was Bouillabaisse. Delicate, flavoursome pieces of fish in a rich homemade sauce. I had to stop my husband from licking the plate.
The fourth course was beef ragout in cannelloni. Served with a small fillet of beef, cooked to perfection. Accompanied with spring vegetables and a rich sauce to pour over. The flavours were unctuous.
A surprise pre pudding of hot cherry tart was next to arrive at our table. This was followed by chocolate cake with toffee ice-cream. Beautiful.
Every member of staff spoke to us. They were friendly and knowledgeable. The ambience was wonderful. I did have a moment where I found the background music to be intrusive. Where I mentioned this to the staff, the volume was reduced slightly to enable more comfortable conversation.
Nothing was hurried in this eating experience and it was lovely for the chef to come out of the kitchen at the end of the evening to ask people to comment on the food.
I really hope this restaurant enjoys the success it deserves . We will...
Read moreWe visited last night for the first time and as soon as we arrived we knew we were in for a great night. The incredible service started as soon as we walked in the door. As it was our first visit our server (who I wish I had gotten the name of but she was so lovely) explained the menu and how it all worked and gave us time to look at the drinks and the food menu. She was attentive without being intrusive, perfect balance and couldn’t do enough for us. On to the food which was nothing short of exceptional. We had 6 different dishes and every single one was a bit of food heaven. We also went on to have the dessert which was just delicious. The atmosphere in the restaurant is so lovely. All the staff are so welcoming and friendly. We finished the night at the bar and were talking with the staff like we knew them. We even got to speak to the chef at one point and tell him how incredible the food was. The was excellent value for money too. Each dish and drink is very reasonably priced. We had 6 dishes, 2 desserts, a bottle of wine, 2 beers and 2 cocktails and it was only £136. Absolute bargain!! I could rave about this place all day - and likely will tell anyone who will listen how amazing it is. It was the perfect first visit and we already can’t wait to go back. A gem of a place and I am so excited it is...
Read moreI wished I had taken more photos if I knew this place was going to be so good that it inspired me to write a review.
We were very lucky to be accommodated as a spur of the moment decision trying to find somewhere to eat that's not the typical pub grub. The owners welcomed us warmly and the service from all the staff was impeccable.
We started with some bar snacks: chilli spiced nuts, truffle seasoned chips and red pepper hummus, all of which excited our palate for what's to come. We ordered the seafood platter, a generous serving for 2, even perhaps for 3 people. Everything tasted fresh, even the pickled mussels! The platter came with wasabi aoili, cream cheese, seasoned soy sauce and crackers. Though I didn't quite get why the crackers were there, I was glad to have them to dip into the amazing seasoned soy sauce, which was well balanced with its spice and tang. The croquettes had a crispy exterior and creamy filing, the pork cheeks melted in your mouth and the chicken quesadilla was nice and comforting. The charred corns would've been further elevated had it was a bit more charred.
It's always nice to see people who dare to do something outside of the norm. It definitely paid off in this case and their slightly out of the city centre location made them stand out on...
