We went here as a result of the good reviews that i had read. We could not have been more disappointed. The food was mediocre at best, the service was very poor and i would have said that it was slightly too expensive.
We chose the "Banquet B" option, which gave us a good selection of most of their dishes and there was not one dish that would have been better than a ready meal.
The staff were in serious need of training. In every restaurant we have been to they always remove the plates from the table after you are done. We have never seen a waiter/waitress scrape the left over food onto my own plate in front of me and then stack the plates before removing them. When we commented on this to another staff member she simply said "I didn't see it."
The staff repeatedly stretched across the length of the table instead walking around the other side
When asking what the selection of sauces were that had been provided, the waiter was unsure, but did not ask anyone else or come back with an answer.
Despite repeatedly bumping into one of my companion's chair, no apology was offered at any point nor was any attempt made to change their path despite many alternatives.
As a last note, we have never been to an "Oriental" restaurant that does not supply you with chopsticks. We had to ask twice before...
Read moreAfter having a lovely meal from the neighbouring Szechuan takeaway earlier this week, thought I'd try a meal at Yan Oriental Restaurant today. Sadly, I can't comment on their food as I wasn't allowed to eat there. Not because they were full – only one table was occupied – but because I only wanted one main meal and was told I wasn't eating enough to warrant me sitting at a table.
Speaking to the owner, she explained that with their costs – such as washing the table cloth – it wasn't financially viable for them to let me eat in. While I sympathise that they won't make a lot of money out of my one meal, I think they're very shortsighted. I may have returned in the future with a group of people or written a great review about them, which would help their business. I explained this to her but she didn't seem interested.
So, instead, I come away irritated by their attitude and writing a negative Google review. It's also likely I'll mention this experience to people I know, which will create bad press for them. I'm always amazed when businesses like this make such bad choices. Sometimes, you need to speculate to accumulate, and I really don't believe they would have lost a great deal of money by letting...
Read moreAs we were in westhill we thought we’d try Yan. The food was great and service was quick however we weren’t impressed with the attitude of (maybe manager?) Ciprian who we spotted multiple times speaking down to younger workers who were new to the job and weren’t given the time, patience or respect. If this is how they are being treated in-front of customers then I dread to think what it’s like behind closed doors. Sadly, this atmosphere angered us and lead us to leave early.
I’m not one to complain but life is hard enough for young people and they don’t deserve to be spoken to in this way, especially when doing...
