I left feeling quite confused about what Millie’s is meant to be. Is it a wine bar? Tapas bar? American bar? Mexican bar? At the moment, it feels like a mix of all of these without a clear direction, and that lack of focus comes through in the overall experience.
The décor feels like it’s been through a series of small, disconnected refurbs rather than one cohesive design, which makes the space inconsistent. From a branding perspective, I’d urge the owners to take a step back and decide exactly what they want this place to be.
The food is also very processed, with a lot of frozen and deep-fried items. The menu is too broad, trying to cover all bases but not excelling in any. I’d suggest cutting it back to a smaller selection of standout, freshly made dishes that really define the venue’s style. Quality over quantity will always win.
The drinks offering could benefit from ditching the cheap cocktail taps and investing in quality ingredients to create proper, well-made cocktails.
On the practical side, some of the basics also need attention — the toilets were a little grim, with broken locks, and there were stock issues during my visit. Ensuring everything works and is consistently available would make a big difference.
