Visited here recently for a meal and a drink with a thought that it may be quite decent as some of the reviews are pretty good. So, the girl who welcomed us wasn't particularly brilliant, more wanting to rush us on to get seated and order - didn't really have any hospitality skills as didn't show us to a table or tell us we should order at the bar. Menu is a bit of tatty paper and had to search to find one. Barman was okay, served a decent G&T which was nice, but then again that's what you get from a good bottle of Gin. The Estrella pint was good too so at least they have clean pipes. The food - terrible! The chef was obviously not on top form and had little to no knowledge of presentation with the 'Posh' fish n chips priced at almost £12 looking like something you'd get in a greasey spoon cafe .. both fish were upside down 'splatted' on the plate. The chips were awful, looked like they'd been sitting in an oven dish on the side for a couple of hours. The ribs were a disgrace, cold and probably a total of 5 mouthfuls (i think they were cheap frozen ones just heated up) - the chicken was rubber, indeed it bounced off the plate when it saw my look of disgrace ... no coleslaw either (although it named it as being part of the dish), so had to ask for that: again, the chips, well, they looked like they'd had a long long day. Did realise that there had been an extremely busy service for them all but that shouldn't quantify for poor service and rubbish food at any time of day - even if it is toward end of shift. The food here is not good value for money by a long chalk. We were charged almost £25 for two dinners, both of which I rate as unacceptable. Will not be returning here for food as it smacks of poor quality and a chef not being into his craftmanship or pride of work or being able to keep up quality for the duration of a shift. The 2 stars are for the Gin and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wouldn't even give this place one star if I could. So a table was booked for 15 of us. When we arrived we had a table set up for 10. Good job there was another table by us that we could use. The food came out at all different times. People had finished eating before the final meal had arrived at the table about an hour later. They had to ask us what food was missing even though we had pre booked our meals. I work in catering and its really not hard to put food through on a till and for a chef to read the check and send out the correct meals at the same time or even a few minutes apart. Not 10/15 minute gaps between a few meals. When the food arrived it was lukewarm at best. Most of us ate what we could as we hadn't eaten most of the day and were hungry. Nobody came to the table to clear the rest of our plates and ask us for desserts. One of us ordered off the app and got his dessert. We then asked for ours. Nearly 20 minutes later and nothing. Baring in mind most of the desserts were 2 scoop ice creams. We cancelled the desserts and paid for what we had and left. Save to say we won't be returning. I am also gluten intolerant and since leaving here has made two trips to the toilet as I have obviously not been given a gluten free roast. I have eaten today gluten free cereal and gluten free biscuits. I know for a fact these were gluten free. Which leaves your Sunday roast (or Sunday disappointment). Ours was the only table as well at the time who was waiting for food. I think your chefs (microwave techs)...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBooked Sunday lunch for 2 at the Hare and Hounds and we both decided to order a roast dinner. The meal was very disappointing...Roast potatoes and Parsnips were clearly frozen and seemed to have been thrown in a deep fat fryer to heat them up..consequently they were rock hard and tasteless. The veg was green beans, cabbage and peas..again there was nothing fresh about them...they were all served in one mixed up soggy pile. Gravy was ok but not very hot. I asked for Cranberry sauce to go with the Turkey..they didnt have any.
Desert was supposed to be Treacle pudding with vanilla ice cream. There was not the slightest taste of treacle..it was more of a bland bought-in microwaved syrup sponge and much of the ice cream had melted by the time it was served to us. The pub also has very confusing and misleading prices...so much of it was an additional Ā£1.99 for this - Ā£1.99 for that. Overall, we were very disappointed which is a shame because I've had many a pleasant meal there over the years but if this is the best they can do to try and bring people back under the Covid-19 situation then they need to do something about the standard of the food. Perhaps Gordon Ramsey could help š We would not recommend...although must say..the staff were all...
