During my last trip to the UK, we choose Occulo Lounge to enjoy our last luncheon before heading back home...
Situated in Southport on the corner of a main street it draws you in... The building itself made me curious for what's inside.
The restaurant is filled with paintings, mainly portraits, done in a familiar yet fresh and perky way, the lampshades and other decorative details and materials makes the picture complete.
The menu has a wide variety of options which can be ordered through qr codes on the table, this has the advantage that you don't have to catch a waiter's eye or attention. After ordering, you pay your bill and when your order is ready, it is served by the staff.
In my opinion an efficient way of ordering, but personally I like to order my lunch or dinner in front of a real person. Another small disadvantage is the fact that the food comes in phases, when you have lunch with a (small) group.
The quality and tastes are outstanding and absolutely more than average. My bacon f.i. was perfectly grilled and presented in an attractive way...
Lots of different choices, for everyone, affordable and excellent quality food...
So, when I come back to visit Southport, I will definitely visit Occulo Lounge again...
In my opinion a place you want to enjoy your breakfast, lunch...
Read moreI went in for a quick lunch and ordered 2 peices of tapas; the salt and pepper squid and the merinara meatballs. They were okay very one dimentional, the squid was cooked really well, not rubbery, but the flavour wasn't there. It was more salty than peppery and I couldn't taste the pepper enough for my liking, I think they need to go over that dish again amd play with the ratios to get it bang on as with the batter, it was again just okay, something needs to change about it. As with the meatballs, yeah they were meatballs nothing special, needs some work to make it pop more and less one dimentional. Also I see their menu is huge which i feel is letting them down. They need to dial the menu right back and focus on something specific, maybe make it into a tapas bar and stick to that route so you can focus more on those dishes instead of having to learn 50 dishes and them all being okay. Thats just my personal opinion. There isn't any other tapas bars around. And tapas is a great ease of access food. Coffee was really nice to end on a positive. I hope they take this into consideration as I think that could majorly boost the place. One last thing, none of the staff are recognisable as you first walk in because they are all in their own clothes, they should definitely wear aprons to help with...
Read moreOcculo Lounge Southport is a lovely setting, very nice ambience, and the service is of good standard, but for me the food lets it down terribly. However that’s just my tastes, as I’ve noticed with my friends, it’s very much a case of some dishes are better than others, some are a real hit, especially the likes of the spicy dishes, but it’s the burgers for me, every time I have ordered, they have been burned, the sausage baps are ok, but the American cheese addition feels very cheap, and the bacon is incredibly fatty and often inedible, but this is all for my tastebuds, and I can be fussy with meat. The menu is extensive and the puddings are a good selection, and that is always a bonus, as many restaurants don’t offer desserts. From the people I’ve talked to, the place is very much hit and miss, a marmite of a place . Sometimes I feel an extensive menu can often put too much pressure on the kitchen staff, but as I say, this really is my opinion, as many of the people I have been with, adore it. Drink choice is unbeatable by the way, and for me, I actually think it’s better as a meet and greet drinks place , than a dining experience, in my humble opinion. One great thing, is the ordering system from the table, it’s is very streamlined, and a...
