This used to be a very good theater with very good performances but (in my opinion) towards the end of 2016 the standards started to decline and the performances were not only flawed with technical difficulties but the standard of performances dropped well below that of an amateur theater. I suddenly found myself walking out of a show mid performance which is a first for me. Sadly with this theater there is no customer service as they say that everyone has their own personal opinion and that not everyone will like what they go to see. I do not accept this as even a poorly written script can be well acted by the right person. Sadly this theater has lost the plot as far as staging good shows is concerned. If you live local and can get a cheap concessionary ticket then you do not have much to lose, but if you are like me and have to travel and book a hotel and pay to park then the standard of performance just is not worth all of the expense as you will not be refunded or given any free tickets for a future show, should you dislike the show that you have been to see. There are two bad things about this theater, the first being that there is no customer services manager to deal fairly with complaints and second is that the shows that are being selected fail (in my opinion) to entertain people. There is one good advantage being that on a Saturday night you can more or less sit anywhere that you like as there are so many empty seats to choose from which I suppose goes a long way to reinforce what I am saying about the decline of this once very popular theater. The good reviews are either based on the museum and art gallery or are based upon the very occasional good show. I would like to see more people posting honest reviews about all of the bad shows that they have seen here so that someone will get a wake up call and do something about the situation before it is too late. This theater reminds me of RMS Titanic is looks grand but it is slowly starting to sink and what I am writing here is just the tip of the iceberg of what is...
Read moreI think that the way paying customers are treated is disgusting. A number of people have told about this problem but I didnt really understand until I went to the box office to book 3 tickets in advance for the upcoming Martin Turner concert. As my wife is disabled I bought tickets on the B row. 1 month later I received a phone message that they are changing the seating arrangement to "first come first served" I called to complain saying that the tickets I paid for were at the front and that its not practical for my wife in a wheelchair to get through what they call a "pub-like setting" I said that I just want what I have already paid for which was seating at the front on B row. At this the person on the phone said in a gruff manner; "Well you can always get your money back" I dont know if they can legally treat us this way or even if this is morally right, all the same I will never again buy tickets for my family from The Atkinson. P.S. I had to give it 1 star because it wont let you post a zero. That...
Read moreThe Atkinson is a lovely place to visit, and features a museum, aswell as the art gallery, library and theatre. The staff are friendly and helpful; there is a gift shop and cafe and plenty of space to take your time and study what is on display. Currently there is a Lord of the rings exhibition and the gallery is showcasing artwork which hasn’t been seen in over 100 years, and they are displaying it in the old traditional way of cramming as many paintings in one room, this is not there usual way of displaying things, but just a respect for the way it once was in the Atkinson of old. It’s really nice and it features my favourite painting of all times ‘John collier’s Lilith’ which is breathtaking. So many beautiful pieces of art on display. It is free to visit. There is also a lovely little teddy bear display, of which you can adopt one, and receive updates from your teddy bear, which is a lovely idea for youngsters and a great way to donate to the Atkinson and keep this wonderful Southport...
