Historic local pub in the beautiful Churchtown. Great atmosphere and dog-friendly. I have visited on many occasions and have often dined here. The food is utterly delicious. It is on the pricey side compared to offerings from other pubs, but we’re not talking traditional pub fare here—this is far superior restaurant-quality food, prepared with love, and highly recommended. The most recent visit was for my mum’s birthday. My husband had the roast dinner, a guaranteed winner. There is usually a choice of roast meats or an option to have them all (yes, that’s what he chose). The vegetables arrive in their own separate serving dishes and the portions are more than ample. The roasted carrots are worthy of particular praise. My mum had the sea bass, and in a first for me, I decided to try the chicken parmigiana👌🫠 I have never had dessert here because I am always too full. In fact, ask for a doggie bag. We always take advantage of this option and our dogs thank us. Bonus points from me for the coffee. It’s great quality. I don’t know what blend they use but I love it. On our last visit, we were served by Hannah and Jack, and our food was prepared by Dan and Carl. I know this because we were given these details when we paid our bill, which I love. They all did a magnificent job. The Hesketh arms is well worth a visit. You won’t be disappointed.

Wow. What a great visit to Hesketh Arms we had. Keith gave us such a warm welcome and looked after us throughout our visit. He is one of the friendliest people we have met. Keith knew the menu off by heart and informed us what we needed to know. He was attentive and so pleasant. I just wish we had had some spare cash to leave as a tip as we only had our card to pay the bill with. The food was amazing and plenty of it. The lamb duo is superb and the home made pie was perfection. Hot food cooked perfectly. Hats off to all the staff at the Hesketh Arms. A must visit. It was clean with plenty tables and space to move about. We also loved that it is dog friendly as we love all animals. Great selection of drinks at the bar too. Parking is on site and the village is perfect for an afternoon stroll through the botanical gardens. Go see the aviary within the gardens. Lovely walk with pond and birds/rabbits/guinea pigs. Superb visit to Churchtown. Thank you all

Good service and food and a lovely pub, with friendly staff, but we went for Christmas day dinner there and for 8 of us on a table, we were very, very cramped. I obviously appreciate the staff working on Christmas day, but we were very disappointed with the table we were booked on. Half of our group on one side could barely fit in because of the bar behind us, one the left side, the person on the end was being brushed past as people walked through what felt like a thoroughfare for not only customers, but waiting staff and pub management - felt very awkward and umcomfortable. Given it was a busy day and obviously staff were very stretched - I appreciate all the hard work and service they provided. But that said it was sad to have spent so much money, and to be seated at what felt like a makeshift arrangement. Would not go back for Christmas day meal.

I was totally disappointed and disgusted with our visit to Hesketh Arms. We reserved a table for 18.30 but it didn't feel like this was expected. Even though we reserved, we waited for food for over 90 minutes. We never got an apology for the delays and never got spoken to in this time. Staff seemed negative and disinterested. We could hear them talking to each other in an inappropriate way in front of paying customers. Other customers walked out after unreasonable delays (nearly 2hr wait). When our meals turned up, sausages were burned beyond acceptable. I cannot believe a chef let them go off the pass. My steak was burned and my chips under cooked (triple cooked apparently). I sent the chips back and got under cooked chips back again. I think the same chips were put back in the frier and cooked for 2 mins. We paid as quickly as possible as already there longer than expected with two tired kids (hence the early tea reservation). No apologies or explanation during wait, no apologies for rubbish food, no apologies when paying bill. No offer of a refund even on something as minimal as the chips despite them sitting in their tin still uneaten. I left hungry having waited over 90 mins for food and eating only a steak that was 30% fat and burned. I've never said this before but I genuinely want my money back. I felt it was a total waste of money and feel very much defrauded of it. Absolutely disgusting...

Booked a table for sunday lunch and arrived abit early and was greeted by a tall man with bit of a beard (didnt catch his name) really nice chap who advised us of the selection of beers they stock as we had no clue being ordinary lager drinkers. The beer we settled on (again cant remember the name) was really nice & cold which was just what was needed as it was a lovelly day and we sat outside in the lovelly surroundings. Our guests arrived and went for lunch being served by a lovely young girl nane Sophia, She was very attentive often coming over to check on us and ensuring all was well. One of our partly was elderly and has mobility issues so it was a welcome bonus that the staff noticed and sat us close to the downstirs toilet which is there for that exact reason (disabled access) they have literally thought of everything at hesketh arms to ensure all patrons have comfortable, warm, friendly experience. When looking at menu online before booking i actually thought the prices was abit excessive but now that i,ve been i realise that it,s not excessive at all and absolutey worth every penny (even more) great staff, great atmosphere, great food, stunning surroundings. I,m one of those people who if finds fault will say and at the hesketh arms i can honestly say i couldnt find a single fault. 10/10 and will...
